unlinkedstudent
Is the Tesco delivery van still off the road? If so, why haven't they hired one or alternatively, I'm sure there must be room for one on the next Hercules?
1979 Sheltie
A friend of mine was so shocked and saddened by what he saw at Tesco yesterday that he left the shop. What happened ?

Kaiser chef
It's an island. We are surrounded by the sea. The sea gets rough. Boats can't sail. Tesco done a good thing. For those who write on here from far away should see the sea at the moment. Then you would know why Tesco done such a thing. There are other charters fetching up fresh provisions today for another customer so don't knock Tesco. They are not the only ones.By the way, thanks for all your praises for us rampies at Sumburgh who had to work out in that weather yesterday & probably today to unload all the planes. Oh sorry, we have not received any praises yet....... What? I know it's the season of good will an all that but don't be looking for praises for doing your chosen occupation. If you got out of bed to climb a pole in a blizzard to reconnect some ungrateful buggers power supply or put out a blaze. Or even cut a drunk driver out of their car then, yes, I'd class you as a hero. But not for waving a red torch while dressed like an Eskimo. Going back to my sherry now. Rant over

shetlandpeat
Is it true that Tesco are the first to airlift food stuff in times when there is an extended delay in sea deliveries? If no, why all the hype #sprootaid? Feed the Thule, let them know it's Christmas time again. Seems to be now a little hype. Now then, the paper said that the Tesco man said that the contents of the lorries were to be..... He told The Shetland Times 11 wagons had been stranded at Aberdeen waiting for freight sailings. They are now heading to Livingstone where it is hoped the stock can be transferred to the Hercules and flown to Sumburgh tomorrow, for what is busiest weekend in the supermarket year.link Store manager Paul Clelland said the company had to shift eleven trailers waiting at Aberdeen harbour back to Livingston where they we resorted and then taken to Edinburgh to be loaded on to the freight plane.link Yet some one here said they were doing something different. Talk about food miles! Meanwhile, the "loyal customers" are upsetting normal folk with their actions....

Ironwithin
Good on Tescos, least they did somthing instead of moaning about it, good to see that the basic founation of supply and demand is still working well.

1979 Sheltie
It makes you wonder how long the average house hold could survive with no grocery shopping ? It seems we are all very dependant on supermarkets now a days.
Chelo
A big THANK YOU to everybody who ventures outside in this weather to help someone else: all people working at Sumburgh (including the rampies ), fire brigade, police, scottish hydro, TESCO, Coop and a all the rest that I am missing please do not be offended. Take care and thanks for helping us to have a good Christmas. Have a very Happy Christmas yourselves and take care out there. Chelo
BlackPhemie
Well done to the Sumburgh Airport Firemen for all the hard work they did off loading the Hercules in the terrible weather conditions over the weekend. The firemen should not be unloading the planes – this is rightfully the work of Lerwick Port dockers whose job it would be normally to unload the cargo boats. Lerwick dockers should have been bussed to the airport and paid treble time plus time and a half for this work. By unloading the plane the firemen have been snatching money than would have rightfully gone to the feed the families of the Lerwick dockers this Christmas. The dockers of Lerwick should now hold a strike without delay as a protest against this theft of their work.
fusion
Totaly disagree with you there, what hapens at the airports have nothing to do with the dockers in lerwick, the same as im sure if something happend to the flights and they bussed the airport staff to carry bags of the boats. why would they get extra money for doing their normal working hours? plus id thought they are employed by the Lerwick Port A. and they would only do that if their employer agreed with the airport managment to lend them their staff. ll
Rather than let local shops get a bit of a look in, it is pretty ruthless to hire the kind of equipment needed to keep a war going, but that it exactly what it is . The side that is loosing, is local business and producers and Tesco's is determined not to let any customers stray back. Ultimately, other industries such as tourism will be affected by this ongoing onslaught and Shetland will be much poorer in the long run.
