paulb
funnily ive changed my mind. at least 20 people were shot dead in the last 10 years. whilst in a conflict with police in the uk. most were ill.whilst possessing an air weapon. i now believe you need to control them in the same way as real firearms. must be secured in a gun case. must have a mental health screen of the whole family. personally i think shotguns and rifles need much tougher control. http://www.gun-control-network.org/IN1114i.htm have a read of the cases that happen. on a personal nature i dont want anyone else to be told that a child of theres is dead. its not worth it. not for them or the police that have to respond to them.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1315288/Police-shot-dead-33-people-1995--marksmen-named.htmla list of those killedhttp://adc.bmj.com/content/86/4/234.full
redrobbie
On average 1 person a year is killed in the UK with a air gun. This compares with a average of three killed by lightning. There already exist laws that cover any conceivable misuse of air guns. Offences involving airguns in Scotland fell to 171 last year a record all time low .In regards to the gun control network this is in fact a government sponsored hands off pressure group with 4 members . paulb
did you read the first link the long list of injuries. 1 person a year is at least 2 families destroyed. and no current laws dont stop a mentally disturbed person accessing them unlike firearms. security and tracking is not upto anything a chain wont stop anyone. Suffererof1crankymofo
And how many people suffer burns each year in MacDs and the like? You can't legislate against the stupid (but duct tape helps ).
paulb
not the same. unless you eat the burger of a somewhat famous name your safe. think more like a dangerous dog breed. in the right hands can be safe however anyone and everyone owning one people will be hurt. punishments are all over the place, 2 years for one man for shooting his wife in the head 5 times related to domestic abuse. and another for pointing a red water pistol at some kids the same sentence. security needs to be upped tracing needs to improve. a health screen needs to be in place. can be done on a simple form that if you want one you fill out have your doctor confirms health and the firearm seller records it on the form and its then sent in. police record info and issue permit. no need for them doing all the work. just a suggestion. one sad case was a murder suicide both shot multiple times. Colin
funnily ive changed my mind. at least 20 people were shot dead in the last 10 years. whilst in a conflict with police in the uk. most were ill.whilst possessing an air weapon. All this says to me is that there is a damn good case for NOT arming the police with anything more potent than a peashooter.. If they can kill so many(?), 20 out of nearly 70 million of us, then, obviously, they can't be trusted with firearms.... As for the 'statistics', get real... 1 person killed with an air rifle compared with, how many, killed on the roads? If the answer is more than 1, can we take it that you want to ban all kinds of road transport as well? Hide your bicycles while you can folks.. redrobbie and Suffererof1crankymofo
paulb
im not after a ban. just better control. not like what the snp want. a step down from firearms licencing. just a record a secure store and a health screen.
Ghostrider
in the right hands can be safe however anyone and everyone owning one people will be hurt...... Chisel, Stanley knife; plane iron; pickaxe, spade, fork, hammer; axe; saw, wrecking bar etc, etc etc ad infinitum. The exact same argument applies to them as to air guns, all will maim and kill more effectively than an extremely limited range catapult for tiny lead pellets. Should we have them all licensed and only entrusted to people who can obtain a medical certificate too. redrobbie
