ianboy1
While Im aware that the £852,000 the council provided in services and assistance towards the Sumburgh runway extension, I can't recall reading or seeing when the SIC bought shares in Sumburgh Airport? Which is owned by Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd which I understand is wholly owned by the Scottish Ministers? Can you provide information to when the public purse bought shares in a government owned company? Well I must apologise if they dont have shares they assuredly do have a vested interest! http://www.hial.co.uk/Default.aspx.LocID-014new044.RefLocID-01402w00h001.Lang-EN.htm Which clearly states:Key projects for the partners will be the planned extension of the airport’s 09/27 runway and the ongoing marketing strategy for the facility, including attracting more oil and gas related traffic, domestic and international flights into Sumburgh. This wouldnt happen to be trying to take business from Scatsta would it ! surely not that would be a conflict of interest would it not and that would never happen where the SIC are concerned ? Speak about takin the bait
penfold
Oh I see you think that posting untruths about the situation regards Sumburgh and how your post on the SIC shareholding would affect different types of flight and how they are handled between Sumburgh and Scatsta constitues a fishing expedition. Forgive me I thought you had new information and facts to bring to the debate, but I see by your filpant response that your statement on the Shetland Islands Council shareholding in Sumburgh Airport is unsubstantiated. Where in the document you intially refered us to does it state that the Shetland Islands Council has or had a monetary shareholding in the airport at Sumburgh as you alluded to in your intial reply? I would refer you to http://www.shetlandjobs.co.uk/pdf/CorporatePlan2008-11.pdf to asuage any insecurities you might have regards the councils commitment to both airfields. misty25
Hi, does anyone know if you have to pay to leave your car at the airport? I have a hospital appt next week and am only down for the day. I did hear murmurings that they were introducing parking fees, but haven't heard any more about it. Would hate to leave my car, only to come back an find a ticket slapped on it! Thanks in advance

Girzie
Not yet but they are working on it. We went to a public meeting back in the summer to make our feelings known about this. They told us then that even if it were introduced, people with hospital appointments would be exempt. But who knows if they will stick with that. Stevo
Hi there, Just being really nosey here, but the other night I was on my way down to Toab we a friend, on the way down we got overtaken by 2 fire engines, 2 coastguard jeeps, a fire brigade car and an ambulance, they all had the blue lights and sirens going. I didnt think anything of it at first but when i came over the brew of the hill coming down into Toab, I could see all the blue lights at the airport. They were all in the middle of the runway. Does anyone know what happened? I didnt hear anything oh it on the news and just as the days have passed, then im become curious as to if something serious had happened. As i say its just to satisfy my nose haha (***Mod Edit - Merged to Airports thread***)
Sudden Stop
I don't have any actually info on that incident but I'd presume it to have been an exercise. Airport emergency services (thankfully) don't have to test their skill often, so expect regular training exercises.
Girzie
Yes, it was an exercise and we were two of the casualties!
peerie t
Yeah,It was the emergency practice, although there was a real air ambulance flight in the heart of it... Not related to the practice might I add.
