Sudden Stop
I'm flying into Sumburgh tomorrow afternoon... The met office website is hedging it's bets and I'd like to know if I'm getting home or not! Are there any Sumburgh regulars here that can give me a no B.S. weather forecast? Or at least their best guess?
crofter
Think radio shetland forecast tonight was offering light SE winds and mist/fog for the east side tomorrow.
Sudden Stop
Thanks crofter. The met office don't seem to want to settle on sunny/cloudy/foggy, it changes completely each time they 'update' the forecast. A chance of fog with a south easterly doesn't sound ideal - I guess i'll find out tomorrow!

JustMe
This http://www.hial.co.uk/sumburgh-airport/flight-information/live-flight-information/ is the website that gives up to date flight information for Sumburgh airport. Lately including the mail plane which some people might be interested in today.
Urabug
So now it appears we will soon have to pay to park our cars at Sumburgh Airport. I suppose if we compare prices at other airports £3 a day is reasonable but it is a shame that HIAL has decided to introduce parking charges, but I'm not really surprised. Watch the price rise over a period of time to be in line with other airports . Now will the Harbour Board do the same at Northlink Ferries ? I do not think £3 a day is reasonable and I suspect others within the SIC agree. There is already a Lib Dem petition on the go to overturn this decision so safe to say Tavish is also against. You cannot compare airport charges at Sumburgh to international airports in big cities. Secondly, the Harbour Board/Council have nothing to do with the Lerwick Harbour - that is the Lerwick Port Authority who are an independent entity. They are making plenty of money from industry within the harbour so I would not expect to see them go down this route.
Suffererof1crankymofo
@ whalsa - it's a lot cheaper than parking at the pier, that's for sure. I can see both sides. Many a time I've been down the airport before 6am and found the main car parks full and even with few spaces in the overfill car park. Gone are the days of the majority of folk dropping them off. These days, it isn't uncommon to see a two car family going away on their hols to take BOTH cars to the airport and leave them there. Hospital patients will be exempt. Will staff be exempt? So will this lead to an increase in folk taking cabs? Out of interest, if you don't think £3 is a reasonable amount, what do you deem to be a reasonable amount? If you believe there shouldn't be a charge at all, how would you address the current parking problems at the airport?

Certainly there are people being inconsiderate and there is a problem with capacity. Personally I always try to find an alternate method but when you live a long distance away it is difficult to find an affordable alternative. I am not sure what a reasonable amount would be, preferably zero. However, the most galling thing about this whole situation is how HIAL have just blatantly ignored the various stakeholders - that cannot be allowed. Much of these questions would be answered with a proper consultation. Perhaps there are other options which do not involve piling further charges on already disadvantaged islanders. RileyBKing
The charge is being introduced without any prior warning or consultations with either politicians or the wider community. Meanwhile we learn from the MD of HIAL that the company "is committed to being open and transparent in its operations" Don't you just love this stuff? Do universities now run degree courses in CorporateSpeak? whalsa
