go.oot.by.dog
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/tommy-sheridan-set-lead-scotlands-1859213?Former MSP Tommy Sheridan set to lead Scotland’s campaign against the Bedroom Tax29 Apr 2013 SHERIDAN, who led ÂScotland’s fight against the Poll Tax more than 20 years ago, was elected chairman of the All Scotland Anti-Bedroom Tax Federation at the weekend. FORMER MSP Tommy Sheridan is set to lead Scotland’s campaign against the Bedroom Tax. He was elected chairman of the All Scotland Anti-Bedroom Tax Federation at a meeting in Glasgow at the weekend. And he’s vowed to oppose evictions of those who can’t pay the Con-Dems’ tax. Sheridan, who led ÂScotland’s fight against the Poll Tax more than 20 years ago, will also organise a mass rally in Glasgow on June 1. The new tax forces people on benefits to pay a surcharge if they have an extra bedroom in their home. Last night, Solidarity leader Sheridan vowed: “As we did for the Poll Tax, if people need support when they are faced with the prospect of eviction, we will be there to support them. “We are committed to physically stopping bedroom tax evictions and consigning Cameron and his bedroom tax to the dustbin of history. “The march and rally on June 1 will bring thousands of people together to fight the Con-Dem Government’s hated tax.†The fight will be his first major move in politics since being released from jail following a perjury conviction. He also went to jail for his part in opposing a Poll Tax warrant sale in 1992. A spokesman for the new federation said the new tax was a “vicious attack on the poorest sections of the working classâ€.

BlackPhemie
The Poll Tax was by far the best thing that a democratically elected government of this country (United Kingdom) ever came up with. This ubiquitously fair tax meant that for the first time society’s scroungers that had evaded paying council rates now had to pay their fair share. Up until then these parasites on our communities had never contributed to the benefits we all received in return for paying council rates. The biggest source of scroungers was the central belt of Scotland which was the fiefdom of the large corrupt faction of the Scottish Labour Party. So it was right and just that the Poll Tax should be implemented in Scotland first. Opposition to the Poll Tax was strong, not only because the scroungers now had to contribute to society for the first time, but also because the backhanders that the Labour councillors’ enjoyed so much would dry up. Sheridan was Scotland’s arch-scrounger and architect of the anti-Poll Tax lies and propaganda machine and was later convicted of a crime. The bedroom charge is not a sensible proposal and not practical to implement and should be scrapped. Having the totally discredited and morally bankrupt Sheridan as leader of a campaign against this charge will do more to encourage support for bedroom charge than anything else. Ghostrider
go on say it would love to see the first court case in shetlland for race hatred. tell us we luv sheeps please. hope you have 50 quid. WTF are you on about? the poll tax was not fair the poor workers were paying the same as the landed gents. a property tax would be fairer hence why the rates system has stuck. paid via the tax system would reduce the costs of collection. The principle of the Poll Tax was perfectly fair - an equal charge on each and every individual adult, after all it is not someone's income, where they stay nor the possessions they have that dictates the burden they create on publically funded services, but the fact they they exist at all. You are correct though, insofar as one of its flaws was not to taking individual personal circumstances adequately in to consideration. You talk about the bigwigs only paying the same per head as someone on low income being wrong, but it was no more wrong than the previous Council Rates system, where you could have four adults living in a small house in the back of beyond only paying £25 per head per annum, and at the same time some little old dear living alone in a large house in town with only her pension, simply because that was where she was born, brought up and lived her entire life, being charged over £1000 per annum. The old Council Rates and the Poll Tax between them had several good ideas, the Rates took in to consideration the distance from the main concentration of public services that were publically paid for (ie. someone living at the Ness or Waas was charged less than someone in Lerrik), the Poll Tax recognised that it was the individual not an individuals' property or possessions that were the burden on publically funded services. Had those two elements been combined with a reasonable and workable system recognising and allowing for those on low income's ability to pay, I cannot see how a fairer system could have been conceived. Instead, after being suckered in to believing "Poll Tax = Bad" by a rabid meglomaniac media, and having it abolished, instead of campaigning to have it modified and improved, we effectively got the old Rates back in a worse state (no recognition of payee's ability to access the services they were paying for in consideration of distance required to trave), and despite their faults, and despite all the criticism they had attracted when in force, "everybody" seemed to be "delighted" with the "improvement" - I've never been able to understand that chain of events nor the conclusion the public en masse seemed to reach - are so many really so gullible and susceptible to media brainwashing....
