Wheelsup
Anyone know what the status of EEC immigrant/emigrants if an independent Scotland is not part of the EU? Will Scots lose their right of residency in EU countries- will immigrants in Scotland from elsewhere in Europe still have a right to live and work here? Rasmie
I expect unless Scotland gets EC membership the SNP will expel all the foreigners here.

I wonder how you would define your foreigner. I would imagine, and it seems the only sensible option is folk who are already in Scotland will stay. I would assume there would be a prior cut off point and qualifying period.
George.
I expect unless Scotland gets EC membership the SNP will expel all the foreigners here. What has EU membership got to do with it? Do we really want these foreigners to come and take our jobs, wives, houses etc. Is it not possible for them to stay at home and do it to themselves
Rasmie
EU members' citizens have the right to live, work and take part in elections in all EU states. Non EU members normally would need to apply for permits which may or may not be refused. I would imagine that as is normal in most countries only people born here or who have a Scottish grand-parents to be automatically entitled to citizenship? one would hope that English, Welsh, Irish would also have automatic rights but that would depend on whoever makes up the rules.. ArabiaTerra
When Czechoslovakia split into the Czech republic and Slovakia, were they already in the EU? And if they were, how was that handled?

Wheelsup
Looks like a divoce from the UK will be acrimonius, and could well seeing the rest of the UK leaving the EU, and Scotland left with no pound and trying to get into Euro-land? Maybe we could try for the Danish Kroner?
Wheelsup
I see that the Home Secretary has said that independent Scots will not be able to use UK passports, which is not unreasonable if Scotland leaves the UK. However it appears that some of the SNP are not happy about this..........whats that all about? I would have thought that having thrown off the yokels of imperialism they wouldn't touch a UK passport, or pound with a bargepole........................... but sound like they don't really want full independence, doesn't it.
