Transformers was horrific. I'm a big fan of the source material (note the avatar), and it was a b@stardisation (sorry mods) of what could have been an epic franchise - Not that you can expect any more from Mr Bay. Take away the spectacle and what have you got? Pee, fart and masturbation "jokes", lazy stereotypes bordering on racism, and horrible, erratic editing.

To top it all off I expected to be able to say "at least the effects were good", but the robots were - for the most part - indistinguishable grey blobs rolling around (not that the editing helped in that regard). The designs were appalling, and is it too much for a Transformers film to actually be ABOUT Transformers? It's also WAAAYYYYY too long, but my main problem was the film-maker's sheer disdain and disrespect for the franchise and it's fans. It's sole redeeming point was Shia Labeouf's performance.

Loved The Simpsons Movie (which features the Greatest "Homer Moment" Of All Time).

U can get da DVD even before its out at the cinema if you have pirate friends.

the dvd is just someone like me who downloads a copy then burns it to dvd then sells it.

the quality isnt better and it costs more. which is gay

One thing you cant deny, especially in this day and age - when was the last time you saw a film with a single, solid, clear, logical plot (even if outragous, but this is a cartoon remember!) which was never deviated from and built upon from beginning to end?

i couldnt disagree with the statement that the simpsons movie had a clear logical plot any more. in fact i disagree more with that statement than the holocaust.

simpsons episodes are notorious for wandering plots that change direction in a split second. for instance, one episode starts with homer trying to get a racoon out of his garden then he goes to phone someone and finds out the phone codes changed so he says to the racoon "i cant deal with you just now, ive got another problem" then the racoon just leaves. (paraphrased example)

then there was the episode where it opens with them about to go on holiday but a guy tells them theres killer bees so they turn around and do something totally different at home..

the movie is essentially the same, with lisa having a love interest that contributes absoutely nothing to the story, and bart having issues with his dad that contributes little other than in the final 5 minutes. the same goes for spiderpig, which plays a pointless role in the movie except for the one part that causes trouble, then he isnt mentioned again

transformers > simpsons

Er, i wont say too much for obvious reasons, but i wasnt referring to a DVD disk.. Rather, if one was the type to do such things, why one would download a TS/TC when the R5 DVDrip was there??

However, back to the subject. I'm holding off to see the Transformes debacle at the garrison next month, hoping for "experience" to improve the situation.

Glad we didnt push too hard for Appreciation Night 2!

Watched Zodiac recently which is excellent and highly reccomended. The more films like that the better.

Most accurate Transformers review quote I've seen:

"I really don't see how people who aren't brain-damaged can enjoy this movie."

How do you think a 7 year old will like it?

My son is at his granny's on the mainland and I promised him a trip to see Transformers when I go pick him up. I don't much like what you are saying about it, but if I don't take him I swear he'll phone ChildLine!

Lots of stuff goes BOOM if that helps..?

The robot designs are much too intricate, and that combined with Michael Bay's erratic editing makes it very difficult to make out what's going on a lot of the time.

I'm a fan of the material - but I'm not an idiot. I know Transformers is a "kids film", and that's fair enough, but in the 1986 original there was no need for masturbation or "golden shower" "jokes" (I'm not making this up). Also, the racial stereotypes on show are nothing short of jaw-dropping, but that's not surprising given this comes from the director of "Bad Boys". The acting performances (barring Shia LaBeouf) are laughable - not that it will make much difference to a 7-year-old!

Your son might enjoy it, but be sure to tell him that although it's a "big robots blow stuff up" film, it's certainly not Transformers. I reckon you should just get him a copy of this:

the simpsons hasnt been released on dvd in any country. there is a screener that has been released on the net in the last 5days, and though i havent looked at it yet, i imagine it has "PROPERTY OF 20TH CENTURY FOX" watermarked over it, like the screeners usually do

transformers is by no means a revolutionary use of the film medium, but it is just basic enterainment. what else could you expect from michael bay?

i think you have an exaggerated distaste for the film because you are so close to the original material, whereas people who go to see the film without knowing the original transformers can still quite easily be entertained for 2hours.

the bottom line is that there are much worse movies out there. ever seen magnolia? *cringe*

Watched both "Die Hard 4" & "The Simpsons Movie" this weekend. Enjoyed both.

Simpsons was a lot better than this thread had lead me to believe; nowhere near as disjointed and random as suggested, and very funny.

Die Hard 4... just don't focus too hard on the plot; otherwise it's fine. Take everything at face value and you'll be able to enjoy a really good action film. I'm aching just from watching it.

Watched Disturbia at the weekend.

Excellent.

Wont say much more for spoiling it, but given the tendency recently for films to have such promising ideas and potential, yet turn out diabolical (Number 23 anyone?) i didnt go in with my hopes too high.

Nice to be proved wrong and solidly entertained for a change :)

I am sick of hearing this as an "excuse" for the brain-fart that was BayFormers. "Well it was Michael Bay, of course it was going to be brainless, vapid, jarringly edited rubbish.... Why didn't you like it?"

Bay shouldn't get his own scale for rating his own films. In the words of Matt Stone and Trey Parker (from Team America: World Police):

"Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?"

I may be unable to "disconnect" from my favourite franchise of all time, but I don't agree with movies who feel the need to pander to the lowest possible denominator. A good example from Transformers - The film opens with a caption which reads:

QATAR - THE MIDDLE EAST

Thanks for clearing that up.

Watched a couple of films over the weekend.

Night listener staring Robin Williams - Enjoyed this film.. although classed as a thriller it didn't thrill me greatly.. but an appealing film to watch all the same.. and kept me guessing exactly what the point of the film was till the end. and even then I'm still slightly confused :P

The other was Son of god staring people I didn't recognize - I should of listened to the guy in the rental shop.. he muttered something along the lines of.. this film is crap.. but i delusion-ed myself into thinking it must be better than Saturday night TV.. how sadly wrong I was :( Unless you like watching some guy strole about a desert for an hour.. then finds a tent and stays there for another hour of the film then don't watch this film ;)

Your bigging it up more for me now, you know.

Dont worry I'm sure Cybertron is in no real danger here, the Transformers universe is a bit too vast for a proper job done on film anyway, it was a multi faced franchise they had after all, would there even be room for the Dinobots. I for one would be let down if they filled it with all the other dork Autobots and missed them out.

Just take a couple of energon cubes and chill under a pile of comics till the fad passes, I'm more than sure that there will be closer and better versions to come with those cross dressing, crank shafters.
