khitajrah
I'm finishing up Philip Pullman's 'Northern Lights', another 25p Eid charity shop treasure . I'm really quite enjoying it despite the grumpy start I had with it. I'd just finished reading the 3rd of Steig Larsson's Millenium trilogy and I was mourning for the loss of Salander and Blomkvist (not in the book, but in my life, it was like old friends had left) and Larsson's writing style. Once I got my head around the idea that Pullman's book was a children's book I started to really enjoy it and now I'm just waiting for the kids to go to bed so I can get peace to tuck into it again. Spinner72
^^ I liked the premise of that, but it did get a bit tedios after a while. I'm totally hooked on Hitman, by Bret Hart, and have some classics to look forward to since Christmas; The man called Cash, Spike & Co, and the full Trilogy of all five Douglas Adams Hitchikers Guides. MJ
oops, think I just spoiled the bairn's book. Discussing alligators, dinosaur cages and karioke in the garage, when I add the "grany who runs away with the biker" apparently she hadn't got that far.Anyway looking for some help. With the percy jackson film out next year, what's a good book to introduce a not very confident reader to greek gods and myths, so she doesn't get as lost as I did? khitajrah
Picked up 'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4' at the charity shop yesterday. A little filler for while I'm waiting for 2nd and 3rd books in His Dark Materials to be transferred to a more accessible library. Picked up Hannibal too, and I'm looking forward to tucking into that once these other books are finished. Has anyone read any of Val McDermid's Tony Hill series? I'm thinking of starting on those some time in the near future.

khitajrah
^ Aw, thanks for the offer, but the books should be available for pick-up this Thursday - just enough time for me to finish what I'm reading now. Thanks anyway Fjool
TeeAyBee
Currently on page 42 of "The Hobbit" and struggling with the meaning of it all Don't try and look too deeply as it doesn't have the same level of sub-plot and sub-sub-plot as Lord of the Rings. It is meant to be a kid's book. You could always await the movie? Didn't one of the primaries do an abridged play version before xmas? I seem to recall Izzy speaking about it.
