"The Wrath of Angels", John Connolly. The man could write a bus timetable and make it compelling, beautiful and dark, such is his literary gift. I have loved every book or story written by him, and, from the opening few chapters, the quality of his prose and his use of imagery have only grown, and do not disappoint. If you have never read any of his works, I urge you to borrow "Every Dead Thing" (the first in the series) from Lerwick/Shetland Library. Everyone to whom I have suggested - or loaned - it has become a fan. He is one of the finest writers I have had the pleasure of reading. He and James Lee Burke occupy a high literary plateau, of modern writers, in my estimation.

I'm currently reading A big boy did it and ran away by Christopher Brookmyre, its not as good as his earlier books. I thoroughly recommend "One fine day in the middle of the night" HILARIOUS!

Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin

Very good, very well written, very scary (for me!) in parts and the whole thing is brilliant.  On book No 2 now.

Just finished, though, the last Rivers of London book by Ben Aaronovitch - again amazing, I love these books.

Also got elder daughter reading the Shardlake series by C J Sansom.  An excellent series, also good as the radio 4 version too.
