When it's not busy then surely there is less risk of an accident. But somebody was employed at great expense to do a survey to show that there is a higher than average accident rate so they need to justify that expense with throwing a few hundred thousand more at it. Had he decided glowerin it maas it da back o' Bressa was "more important" than his presence in da Toon Haa on the day in question, this crackpot plan would never have seen the light of day. Has the SIC relly come down to if one (wo)man roars loud enough for long enough, the rest give in and let them have their own way..... *If* the roads capital budget has money burning holes in its pocket, there's a chunk of main road at Levenwick been waiting since last the Millenium for upgrading, and its in dire need of it. Not to mention its not long ago that Roads were pleepsin maintenance and repair was being cut back to the point roads were only a years away from potentially falling apart far faster than they could afford to fix them. A wise man spends first on maintaining in good order what's he's already got before going out and buying new and more of questionable purpose, a fool spends on newer and fanicer without looking back where everything he alredy has is steadily falling asindry from neglect. I emailed my councillor(not something I do often, like once in 10 years) saying the proposals for The Esplanade were madness and the money would be better spent repairing Commercial Road. Unfortunately, I recieved a very "not really interested" reply. If these proposals go ahead folk will just avoid the area and the traffic will end up congesting other roads/areas. Da Street is struggling as it is but they seem bent on doing everything in their power to kill it off completely. They don't seem to grasp/understand that most working folk don't have the time to park half a mile away simply to post a letter or pop into the bank. It always been "amusing" (if worrying) watching some of the attempts at hill starts from folk that have had to stop to let pedestrians across as it is, adding a huge flat top speed hump for them to go over as well is going to be taking things to a whole other level of WTF. Thankfully there are still some folk in Shetland that don't do all their shopping at tesco or on the internet, and as stated above don't have the time to park at the hillhead. Maybe the tesco carpark should be moved out past sound school so some folk can get the idea of why folk usi g the street want to get as close as possible with their vehicles. Going by the recent planning decision about the Voe restaurant, Tesco is in Lerwick (the centre of the universe) and is in walking distance of the whole town so therefore should not really need a car park, we simply cannot have all these yokels (or lazy toonies) contributing to climate change by driving anywhere for their errants!
