Popular Post owre-weel
Copied from another thread. (Closed by admin)"this is yet another thread bogged down by your bickering. If you have no interest in someone else's posts then please make use of the 'Manage Ignore prefs' function you'll find by clicking your username at the top right of the page." I respect the right of admin to monitor and close threads and don't have a problem with them doing so, but I don't feel managing preferences, by hiding individuals posts is the best way forward. I for one want to see if someone is misquoting me etc. Nor do I believe that only seeing half of what is being said on a thread makes it worthwhile taking part as it would be like having a three way conversation on the phone but each can only hear one of the other two. Hardly worth taking part if that's the case. To be honest I don't know what the answer is, other than not take part. I'm not the first to feel this way. So as I feel the comments were directed at myself I believe the best way forward is to call it a day. I have enjoyed my time on Shetlink and have met some nice folk whilst taking part in many of the threads, but now feel its time to say farewell and wish you all the best. I would be obliged if you would now close my membership. Thank you Owre-weel shetlandpeat, humptygrumpty, unlinkedstudent and 2 others
Popular Post unlinkedstudent
I asked for my membership to be closed too - I too dislike being misquoted. It's sad. But even I can't stand the way in which another member appears to be permitted to constantly break the rules of this forum and, on the surface, appears to get away with it. If that's the way Admin wants to moderate this forum, so be it. This is my only post in several weeks since I asked for my membership to be closed. shetlandpeat, Ghostrider and humptygrumpty
Popular Post Ghostrider
I respect the right of admin to monitor and close threads and don't have a problem with them doing so, but I don't feel managing preferences, by hiding individuals posts is the best way forward. Agreed, while its handy to have, and has its uses, its very difficult to follow and participate in a debate without being aware of everthing that's been said in it, especially if other contributors drag points and issues in to the debate from hidden post(s). To be honest I don't know what the answer is, other than not take part. Perhaps a little more pro-active moderating, where it is seen that an individual post has picked up on an obscure point on the outer peripheries of the thread topic, and launched in to a lengthy hard to follow ramble that is in effect a new side debate of minimal relevance to the topic of the OP. Yes, I know Mods have lives and livings to earn, just like the rest of us, and can't do the nursemaid bit 24/7, but its sad to see threads that were showing potential of producing a healthy and informative debate being derailed and dragged so far off on a tangent by a proliferation of virtually unrelated side debates the OP is wholly lost in the ensuing confusion. Few of us aren't guilty of slideslipping in to a less than on topic ramble from time to time, it happens, but when it becomes someone's MO, IMHO, that's a whole other issue. humptygrumpty, unlinkedstudent and shetlandpeat
Colin
I to have decided to make no more posts and, when I have gotten over my irritation at being 'slapped' for an 'on-topic' comment, might even unsubscribe. Fed up of watching a 'stalker' trolling a few members posts and obfuscating any discussion with meaningless drivel.Furthermore, if I cannot comment on the position taken by another poster (even though it was indirect) then, what is the point of posting anything at all? I think that admin got it wrong.. unlinkedstudent and shetlandpeat

Colin
When do we break out the champagne, then?Sarcastic and flippant but, just ask yourself just WHAT have YOU contributed to this discussion.
Fatal Paper Cut
Very little. But I do have the party poppers on standby and Kool and the Gang's 'Celebration' lined up on the stereo in anticipation. Siccar
Muppet
How does the 'ignore' function work? Does it work both ways i.e. the ignored person cant see your posts as well as you not seeing theirs? If that was the case, then it wouldn't take too many people ignoring any particular person to make their use of Shetlink a bit fruitless. It really is a shame that such a wonderful resource as this can be completely ruined by a very small minority of users.
unlinkedstudent
When do we break out the champagne, then? When Mareel closes for good? I'm sorry, you'll have to speak up. I can't hear you over the mass exodus of self-important pontificators. And the party everyone else is having. Which is of course, entirely co-incidental. hjasga
I don't know the full history behind this thread, but assuming it is based on the thread about the Yell kirk break in, the pettiness there seemed to come entirely from you, owre-weel. SP's comments didn't seem at all offensive or trolling, so your "Yawn!" seemed entirely unnecessary.
bresail
I don't know what has happened but I do know that none of us should leave the forum. If someone attempts to annoy you, invariably they are wishing to impress someone, they will be using a pseudonym because they don't have the courage to voice an opinion any other way. They are pointless people.owre-weel,unlinked student,Ghostrider,Colin, you're all good people.Midges annoy us but we are still here.Moderators, you're doing a good job, thanks. So what to do about the stupidity in posts,"Condemnant quod non intellegunt.""Aquila non capit muscas"regards,Rex.
