BigMouth
It's good to see that the SIC and the wind energy company will be in discussion tomorrow regarding using the excess power supplied by the forthcoming wind farms to power the Shetland Light Railway, running initially from Lerwick to Sullom Voe to reduce the amount of traffic on the north road. Speeds of up to 80 mph are expected, which will mean a slightly slower journey than drivers are currently achieving. 75% of the train's lights will be working to mimic the cars so that oncoming traffic is not dazzled. Shetland residents, already subsidising a rail service to which they have no access, will undoubtedly be overwhelmed by this news, which until now has been kept secret. paulb and Ghostrider

Ghostrider
.....but, this is old news. Its the circular rail tunnel that's very near completion connecting Fair Isle - Mousa - Bressay - Noss - Whalsay - Skerries - Fetlar - Yell - Unst - Papa Stour - Foula - Vaila - Havera - St Ninians Isle - Fair Isle, thats the real big secret. Mainly because they just realised nobody had thought about where it was going to join the mainland light railway line.
