Distortio
Just had a light bulb moment - Earlier this summer David Cammeron made a unanounced vist to Shetland - the local council wined and dined him and he stayed overnight I think- there was a bit of a ho-ha as the media hadn't been informed about it and it went largly un-reported in the national press. Was the crafty sod doing a deal with our council and Carmichael ????? http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/sep/17/shetland-may-reconsider-place-scotland-yes-vote-alistair-carmichael http://newsnetscotland.com/index.php/scottish-news/9556-downing-street-silent-on-camerons-secret-shetland-visit quite possibly. wondering if he'd had a few, he was looser tongued than usual... cameron in shetland nsfw (might depend where you work)
Gorgonzola Butt-cheese
From the Guardian comment,s Shetland independence could happen before Scotland's - there's nothing saying that Scotland has to go before Shetland. The enclave rules are not binding but for guidance, so the islands could negotiate more than 12 miles as their EEZ as happened with St Pierre & Miquelon. Alternatively they could vote to join Norway, in which case the Norwegian sector will grow to include all of the Brent complex - arguably that's the best option for Sheltand on a narrow economic basis. Salmond is always telling us how great it is in Norway, why not join in the fun? A federation with the Faroes would also be interesting. The impact of oil on Scotland is overstated though, North Sea taxes were worth just over £4bn to Scotland in 2013/14, compared to government spending of over £65bn. VOTE UKIP ! VOTE UKIP ! jeezus....

Gorgonzola Butt-cheese
20,000 barrels a day is pish, it's also in one of the most hostile and difficult to extract environments on earth, they will probably burn 1 barrel for every 3 they get out.If they found a field the produced 1 million a week, now that would be worth a mention. World daily consumption of crude is around 80 million barrels per day. Yes I know Nigel Farage is the greatest politician since sliced bread , but no he is not Jeezus !! How about Shetland as an overseas UKIP territory ? Lets cast off these bloody flat keps n ghanzies ! A nice blazer and a purple tie for you dear distortio ! However advances in technology and the continued increase in oil prices have now made the fields profitable." and farage is a tool, that really requires no further discussion. Colin
it's amazing how many people still seem to see this as a vote for alex salmond or the SNP. it isn't. got that? ok, good. Oh yes it is.... Got that? After all, it is THEIR policy and THEY are the ones pushing it... and again. never ceases to amaze... THEY are not the only ones pushing it. any more than the tories are the only ones pushing bt. the vote for any political party including but not limited to the SNP is in 2016. Rubbish.. It has been their declared aim from their inception.. Others might support it but, it is THEIR policy

REFERENDUM. you vote YES or NO. nothing more. you are not voting for a political party. you are voting to decide to what degree your future votes will represent the government you get. right, i'm off to vote. Gorgonzola Butt-cheese
Great comments from charlie brooker in the guardian"Nonetheless, Ed Miliband will visit Scotland to inspire people. To do what? Join Isis? Incredibly, he’ll be teaming up with Gordon Brown. Sitting through back-to-back speeches by Brown and Miliband is a challenge comparable to eating 15 sheets of cardboard with a heavy cold. Expecting that duo to dazzle wavering voters is like entering Stephen Hawking into a clog-dancing contest.Cameron can’t help here, of course. In Scotland, David Cameron is less popular than Windows 8. He’s the physical embodiment of everything a fair percentage of Scottish people hate: a ruddy-faced old Etonian walking around like he just inherited the place, sporting a permanently shiny chin as though he’s just enjoyed a buttery crumpet in front of the cricket. Worse still, he’s a lizard. An actual lizard. Send him to Scotland to make a speech and the moment a crowd member shouts “boo!” or hurls an egg, Cameron will “display” by raising the hyoid bone of his throat and enlarging his dewlap in a bid to intimidate potential predators. And that won’t play well on Scotland Tonigh"

(YES in case anyone was unsure) see ya. We all know that it's a referendum but, the whole point of the referendum is to confirm the level of support (or otherwise) of a particular parties 'vision' of Scotland's future. Therefore, it IS a vote for the SNP... Edited September 18, 2014 by Colin
