MuckleJoannie
I've been getting random redirects to Flash or Java updates on Shetlink. It's happened at odd times on other forums as well. I see in another thread that I'm not the only one. Any ideas why? http://www.shetlink.com/index.php?/topic/8340-how-to-prevent-pain-and-ignore-illnesses-in-the-nhs/page-7 Edited June 11, 2014 by MuckleJoannie
shetlandpeat
It is the scam we have all been warned about in the media. One part gleans info fro the PC if it is of any use then uses your contacts to spread, if you do not have any info, it locks your PC and askes for a payment. Popular Post trout
Thanks for your indepth and amazing understanding of computers, the internet, everything really - and for spreading a shocking rumour that Shetlink is spreading malware that is trying to lock peoples computers and demand money from them Having seen the same thing over an extended period of time have been attempting to track down the 4th party advertiser whom is slipping these into our 3rd party advertisers advertisements and a) remove b ) remove 3rd party advertiser. These adverts are at worst stupid links, and or will ask you to download stupid things - along with the installation/update of java. These things you would want not to install: http://www.anvisoft.com/resources/how-to-remove-java-2014down-com-pop-up-ads/ for an example of the things appearing. Some anti-virus etc. will flag as positive. Why does Shetlink have adverts you say? The Interweb ain't free ladies and gentlemen! If it weren't for all the lovely people donating monies using the donation button in the header and or assisting in Shetlink's upkeep via the Trade / Commerical - Situations Vacant - classifieds. Well - thank you. You know who you are. Windwalker, Kafka and crofter

crofter
It was Plato... Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something. gafynandrew

shetlandpeat
Hmm. Interesting assumption. We should have none of that here.

Suffererof1crankymofo
So this thread ain't about a spam-eating, coffee drinking bloke wearing nothing but a dirty old raincoat then? I was so looking forward to reading the Court write-up. Kafka
shetlandpeat
This is what I read... http://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/news/news-listings/386-two-week-opportunity-for-uk-to-reduce-threat-from-powerful-computer-attack Though, I would not click on any link that just appears, similar to the one on here earlier. Still, folk are falling for it on Twitter, clicking links that is, Look What They Are Saying About You! however, this one is not going to hack your account. crofter
This is what I read... "Users are typically infected by clicking on attachments or links in emails which may look like they have been sent by genuine contacts and may purport to carry invoices, voicemail messages, or any file made to look innocuous. These emails are generated by other victims’ computers, who do not realise they are infected, and are used to send mass emails creating more victims." Nothing to do with random flash updates then. shetlandpeat
It seems not, however, would you click on them, again, after reading that a week ago, to a site having random links appear from no where, you are naturally on guard. Regardles of the right and wrongs of the statement I made, it was in the best interest. But it is good to have a go as well. So, thanks for pointigh that out. Any how, there is this I read also.... http://malwaretips.com/blogs/flash-player-update-removal/ some time ago...
