When is a shop more than a shop?

I would be interested to know how you view iconic shops. Are they merely places to buy milk and groceries or have they in some cases risen to become a "destination" or "attraction" in their own right.

 

I suppose it is a question of perception. In the local and national examples I have put forward, I believe they are both far more than "just shops".

I would love to know the opinions of others.

 

I should make it clear I have no family or business ties with either establishment. Other than having on occasion been a customer of both.

We certainly make a point of visisting the Aywick shop when we are in Yell.

On Fair Isle our shop is more than a shop it is a tourist destination a meeting place and is as essential as our nurse cover

I can only comment on Harrods.

 

I have know folk who have used it as their everyday shop, though I feel it is generally a tourist thing, similar to Hamleys.

 

I look forward now to visiting the Aywick shop next time I am up to see Unst.
