ng7627
My daughter has just got a new laptop. The touchpad works when she logs in but doesn't after that. Anybody know waht the problem is and how to resolve it. It is a Toshiba laptop with Windows 8 or 8.1 I think.

AlexandraS
It'll still be under warranty. I had similar problems with a brand new Vaio I bought last year. Called Sony and whilst they had me jumping through daft hoops "have you tried turning it off and on again?" - they collected by courier and returned by courier within 10 days - 1 year on and it all still works. Naturally, all FOC! Note to others: I will never by a touch-screen laptop again. Total gimmick.
JustMe
Most laptops do have a usb port that allows operation with a mouse. But a problem when new ought to mean a return to the supplier.
MuckleJoannie
Are you sure it hasn't been disabled? Some info here http://www.pcworld.com/article/241048/how_to_disable_your_laptop_touchpad.html
ng7627
Thanks everybody for yor replies. We have decided to take it back to a Curry's store. It is brand new and shouldn't really have that problem. It's funny it works when she logs on and then stops working which makes me think it is something to do with the windows but I may be wrong. Anyway never had this problem wi a laptop before and seems strange as the laptop is new.

Log in as another user and see if it still happens, also try putting the laptop back to factory settings(this will wipe all user files and settings), usually F12 I think as soon as you switch it on. Twerto
have you tried hitting the blue FN button and F7 at the same time?
ng7627
Well after all that it turns out there was a fault with the laptop. My daughter now has a replacement after a 30 mile round trip to get to a shop that stocks the same model. Bit annoying that we have had all that trouble with a brand new product.
