ll
Think it's about time that the Shetland Museum got to work on their boats outside. The Pilot Us used to look pretty good when she first came to Lerwick, but now is starting to look like the Nil Desperandum used to look. http://www.trawlerphotos.co.uk/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=14446 Sadly now, the Nil Desperandum now is in very poor and neglected and is fast becoming an eyesore. When she was widely acknowledged for being a beauty of a boat, way ahead of her time, it is so disappointing to see her displayed in her current condition as a landmark exhibit in the amphitheatre of Hays Dock before the museum. http://photos.shetland-museum.org.uk/index.php?a=ViewItem&key=SXsiTiI6MTksIlAiOnsidmFsdWUiOiJkZXNwZXJhbmR1bSIsIm9wZXJhdG9yIjoiMSIsImZ1enp5UHJlZml4TGVuZ3RoIjoiMyIsImZ1enp5TWluU2ltaWxhcml0eSI6MC41LCJtYXhTdWdnZXN0aW9ucyI6IjUiLCJhbHdheXNTdWdnZXN0IjpudWxsfX0&pg=1&WINID=1446943600307#77s3Fm688YoAAAFQ5GdquA/125122 I think that in years to come the preservation of our unique and historic fishing vessels, would be of more importance than stuffed cows and grice and also the fibreglass trow cubby hole in the museum. fartypants
Yes very well said, the ''Pilot Us'' is starting to look very scabby she's a beautiful boat which was always very well looked after when the Watt family from Scalloway had her, Surely they can afford a few tins of paint and im pretty sure there would be folk willing to help and paint her up every year. Sweezy
I've understood from good authority that the highly embarrassing conditions of Pilot US, Nil Desperandum, the boat in the museum shed and one other at Hay's Dock is due to poor planning and a monumental inability to find funding by Shetland Amenity Trust, who is the responsible part. ll
Maybe they bust their budget buying the cat fontrollers boat? Wonder why this is a pet project and still going ahead indoors, whilst boats outside are sadly neglected
