BigMouth
I need to send a small package, probably between 500g and 1kg. It used to contain fuel, but has been fully de-gassed and cleaned, but the Post Office are a bit over-zealous at impounding post that they shouldn't, so I want to use another courier, but someone who has sensible prices. Any ideas? Thanks
panrider913
Collect Plus. Print your labels online and then take the parcel to Tagon Stores Voe. They are the only local agents. Half the price of Royal Mail and reliable too.
Ghostrider
Is Collect+ any less likely to seize an empty fuel container than RM? Collect+'s T&C's for banned items are considerably less detailed than RM's, but pretty much contain lmost identical items. Items that must not be sent using CollectPlus due to health and legal reasons include the following:Aerosol cans/SpraysAnimals or creatures of any kind/Animal Fur/ Animal or Human Remains/ IvoryAny of the following; Gases/Pyrotechnics/Arms, Ammunition/Flammables/Corrosives/ Toxics/ Noxious, Hazardous, Radioactive or Oxidizing materials:Biological SamplesCurrency of any kind (Inc money, stamps, event tickets, lottery tickets, payment cards, securities, bullion, coins)Drugs and Medicines (Inc prescription, medical/dental records, recreational)Dry ice/Frozen waterEnvironmental waste/ Medical wasteInfectious substancesLiquids (Inc Alcohol, Paint, Oils, Gels, Lubricants, Fuels)Perishables (Inc Flowers, Plants (inc derivatives), Fruit, Temperature controlled foodstuffs (chilled, wet, frozen, liquid))Pornographic materials/Obscene or unlawful publicationsWeapons (Inc replicas) http://www.collectplus.co.uk/faqs-new/?p=661 There are Couriers taking packages of "Hazardous materials" in to Shetland, as they're licensed to carry such things, and as long as the sender declares on the packge whats in it I've not expereinced any problems with those I've had incoming (bulk orders of lighter petrol). However its been a while since I last ordered any, and now can't remember which Courier was used so that I could check with their local agent if they do outgoing too, as I also have a small package I'd like to send as well, but don't want it impounded/destroyed by a carrier. Suffererof1crankymofo
I have this vision of the next time I'm down South of doing a detour via the Zippo repair centre ... or buying Ghostie a new Zippo for His birthday!

BigMouth
Thanks a lot folks, that's really useful. A fuel tank with no trace of fuel is just a tank, so I will go the collect-plus route. gav2010
BigMouth
I have used CollectPlus 3 times now, and as long as you are in no rush then the service is fine. The first package took a week to get to Aberdeen, but once over that hurdle it picked up the pace and within 4 days completed its journey to Norfolk. I was in no rush so this was all perfectly acceptable. The main thing was that it wasn't impounded for being a tank! The following two packages followed a slightly shorter timespan. Much time was saved by not having to join a post office style queue, one where time seems to move backwards!
