MuckleJoannie
Norway has consistently voted to stay out of the EU but they still have to follow the EU rules. They have all of the disadvantages and few advantages,

Ghostrider
Get out, we never voted to go in. All the EU has succeeded in doing is allowed Germany to achieve by stealth through the back door, what it couldn't achieve by brute force half a century earlier - a united motherland with a buffer zone of satellite nations protecting it on all sides, propping it up and doing its bidding. Wheelsup
While Scotland has such a pro-EU government we are unlikely to get out.
Colin
Norway has consistently voted to stay out of the EU but they still have to follow the EU rules. They have all of the disadvantages and few advantages, Yes, they have the advantage of being able to make up their own rules/laws and, ultimately, do whatever is in their own best interests. They also control their own currency, borders, immigration policies and natural resources etc. It's called "sovereignty". The only EU "rules" that they have to follow are those that directly affect the goods and services in their trading relationships. I'm at a loss to try and figure out just what the real "advantages" are.. whalsa and Gorgonzola Butt-cheese

Wheelsup
The only advantage is being able to sell your fish, oil, timber, rock etc to the rest of Europe without having their goods taxed on entry into the EU until they can't compete with EU states

I'm at a loss to try and figure out just what the real "advantages" are..HERE is what former Norweigan foreign minister Espen Barth Eide has to say about Norways situation with the EU, this quote from his article caught my eye."As an EEA member, we do not participate in decision-making in Brussels, but we loyally abide by Brussels’ decisions. We have incorporated approximately three-quarters of all EU legislative acts into Norwegian legislation – and counting."
Wheelsup
Its probable than a non-EU UK or Scotland or Shetland might have also decided to impose sanctions against Russia for invading another country. iF we left the EU countries like Spain might not take our shellfish etc as they might attract high import taxes. Redrobbie99
I do not understand the SNP's loyalty to the EU when the EU did everything in their power to ruin the independence referendum for the SNP . http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2560630/Now-Eurocrats-wade-Scottish-vote-Barroso-says-extremely-difficult-independent-Scotland-join-EU.html
Popular Post Ghostrider
Without European funding who will fund the tunnels to the islands? I'm not seeing Europe rushing in with their cheque to pay for them either, despite the idea of tunnels having been grumbled about for many years. Meanwhile, Norway appears to have a pretty healthy ongoing tunnel/bridge program without European money.
