White lines

How much does it cost for equipment to paint white lines on the road in comparison to contracting job out to Sooth company?  I would have thought it could pay for itself quite swiftly, but maybe I'm being over simplistic.

Yes it is strange, they also require a team from south to fix the traffic lights,or at least try!.

Also and is this a  team up from south to "slester the roads and streets with, well what is yon stuff farm slurry.!

Has this  council never heard of multitasking, where employees are trained to do a variety of different jobs thus saving money

Apart from the" re-surfacing " in Lerwick being the worst job I have ever seen in the UK, why is it  the council always leave the painting of white lines until after all the fog has gone ?

At the moment if it is foggy down the South end at night you have to literally guess where the road is and this was resurfaced months ago.

The 2 bus stops in Quarff look like they ran out tarmac on the path so that you only stand on a proper surface where the bus door actually stops the rest of the path is just  like compacted type 1.

It's an utter disgrace to Shetland, and the Council should be asking for their money back and sack the person who signed the work off as acceptable. Their pay packet would have paid for the machinery mentioned in an above post.

Who would be liable if there was an accident at night in the fog and the council failed to re paint the roads within a reasonable time knowing full well it can get extremely foggy this time of year?

Now this is what I call a great topic for all the moaners to take part in. Perhaps if we didn't have white lines it would be safer. People just currently put the foot down and follow them blindly at speed. A lot of councils dawn souf are doing away with white lines to encourage drivers to actually look where they are going and make visual judgements of the risk scenarios and slow down!

A case of progress not quite being the progress it may have seemed, 35 years ago linepainting was no more complicated and expensive than a few students with pots of paint, paintbrushes, tape measure and lines and chalk. Now its this kind of rig for £££'s, and a driver thats good enough to do it right first time every time, and at speed.

Ironically it doesn't seem one option is any much better than the other, painted wore out after a few years, machine sprayed cracks and breaks up after a few year. So it seems the only real benefits are to the students who now are employed (or not) in activities less injurous to their knees and backs, and better on their mental health than spending all summer playing in traffic.
