WiiMan
As I understand from the Norwegian contractors the tunnels would have been financed via there banks no pot of gold needed all they wanted was the ferry payment each year for I believe 5 years to cover the cost and then hand it back to Shetland.Going back to ghost rider statement "is it not more complicated than that" well it can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it!!!Does anyone know if Tunnel and Geoconsult has built anything anywhere since it was incorporated in 2012? Also, what about tolls? I'm sure Malkie Bell said it was £20 return to the airport in Faroe.
The bear
As far as I understand there were going to be no tolls all they wanted was the subsidy at its present level from the scottish government for a number of years to cover there cost. So it wouldn't cost anything in real terms as the government is giving the council a hand out anyway.
WiiMan
As far as I understand there were going to be no tolls all they wanted was the subsidy at its present level from the scottish government for a number of years to cover there cost. So it wouldn't cost anything in real terms as the government is giving the council a hand out anyway. So a company that hasn't built anything is offering an unbelievably good deal. What could possibly go wrong? I'd check up on the tolls too since a proportion of the cost of tunnels in Norway is always financed through tolls for 15-20 years. Pretty sure the council only gets £5-6M a year for all the ferries so would take a lot more than five years to pay off even at zero interest. Has anyone seen the detail of this offer / seabed survey / designs? Just curious. listerine and George.
paulb
about 45 million for a 6km tunnel not bad.http://tunnelbuilder.com/News/Nordoya-Tunnel-Opens-in-Faroe-Islands.aspx
Popular Post shetland2016
Lady’s gentleman I understand that some people in Islands .think tunnels fare fetched But in reality Shetland must develop for all who live there for future generations as Many young people leave islands go study on mainland and don’t return home to island to live due to remoteness of islands costs ferries connectionsWe can study faroe islands how people have made success of their islands economy main today is fishing, although oil gas are discovered there It will be developed in near future .Shetland had both fishing and oil trade from 70s ,so one must think why we still work inter island ferries yell unst when 70s Faroes had tunnels? Was the oil funds belonging to Shetland people not for use this type developments along with EU funding why so much meeting consultants travel used monies wasted only talking no actions done. When Norwegians propose to finance tunnel Why not be democratic say welcome to investors, as end day private companies can operate ferries or tunnels in British industry by government laws without problems with state grants or without.. If state don’t want help and only SIC can do these projects means a form communism is in admiration and no room for private sector as conflict interest to state or persons within? I do believe Island communities are not against tunnel and funding private or state can be found to give isles better chance of completive market develop regions in all sectors .so island people must make in clear vision what they want for their future and express to local government admin who represents the people of islands and their requirements .as people vote in counselors who work for wage to help there area develop who can stand up with their head high what they achieved in office With note of tunnels following is noted They do 400 meter per month on 2 Face 50 meter per front per week. Costs ferries subsites received per year Total expenditure on Shetland Ferries per year is 16,3 Million Income is 2,2 million per year What is cheaper tunnel or ferries? 120 year tunnel or 7 new ferries were prices keep going up each new ship not rocket science to know cheaper version even stone from tunnel could use for roads a lot work jobs be given on islands in construction waarigeo, Itchyfeet and Da Burra Shop
