Popular Post Crow
The report also added and named two businesses s that already " sell really responsibly " that's great , however is it the correct use of NHS resources to specifically be seen apparently to endorse off - licenses ? I dont doubt for one minute that these ( named ) business's are good and stock high quality brands , however to shop here ( as apparently the NHS are encouraging me to do ?) would be a treat for me.I ,like many folk , have to manage my budget. I enjoy a glass of wine with my meals ( previously reported by the national press as good for your heart ! - a researched study that has however since been questioned )I shop at supermarkets where I can buy a half decent wine that is affordable - drinking out is not an option as it would involve driving and is expensive.Does the report intimate that alcoholics are only to be found in a lower earning bracket or do the named establishments only serve a better class of alcoholics ?!It is unfortunate that this report whilst trying to tackle alcohol misuse, a real problem , not just in health issues and strain on already stretched NHS resources, appears to have been hijacked by the directives of the Scottish Govt. and the arrogant and snobbish directive to shop for alcohol at two named shops.!Please can the NHS in Shetland refrain from any involvement in private business. What happened to the dedicated alcohol and drug centre ?and finally . Hey , it's my bloody choice under a democratic system to make autonomous decisions ( and a human right I believe ) I dont want to be governed by a fascist dictatorship , and if this is a taste of Scottish Government's influence in these Islands ( and i feel some sympathy towards the author's of the report if this is the case ) then im joining " Wir Shetland"Cheers menkeeeaneahi, Ghostrider, Girzie and 3 others

Not that that makes any real difference, the rhetoric may change, but the end result on the ground is pretty much the same. Having only ever had Socialists (aka the pretty face of Communism) in power in Holyrood, and only ever likely to have Socialists in power in Scotland, welcome to a taster of what an independent (Communist Republic) Scotland will inevitably be like. Had the referendum gone the other way, you'd be addressing the person behind the counter as 'Comrade' whenever and wherever you bought your tipple of choice by now. George.
John Tulloch (Shetland Products) Ltd t/a Hughson BrosLerwick Amazing. In their report NHS Shetland have listed a wholesales business as an off-license. Wonder if the authors had had one or two too many? Popular Post Colin
probably because they have an off licenceNot as far as I know. Also included is another wholesaler (J W Gray & Co), Lerwick Brewery and a distillery on Unst. AFAIK, not one of these sells to the "general public" and have a general "Trade Only" policy. Imagine the furore if someone tried to prevent any of the above from supplying their customers before 5pm.... All in all, the reports seems to be badly written, poorly researched and, presents figure that are just not credible. I would be amazed (well, maybe not....) if anyone on the licensing board takes it seriously. Da Burra Shop, Frances144 and George.
magnie ii
they all definitely have off licences as well as wholesale licences check the register grays and hughsons both supply weddings among other things for the general public and the distillery in unst has a shop
George.
Hughsons will love it if, as is being suggested, alcoholic beverages have to be sold after 5pm. Their customers will love it too, if they can't have a dram until how many hours after the wedding. It's pure, utter garbage, generated by the lowest of the low in the NHS. What people will do to make themselves feel important. p.s The homebrew is doing well. Da Burra Shop
Colin
OK, I didn't know that the Unst distillery ran a shop and I stand corrected for my oversight on on J W Grays and Hughson Bros but, the two wholesalers are not "Retail Outlets" in the general sense and, that is what I thought was being discussed. Ghostrider
That kind of activity though is an entirely different ball game to what kind of activity the likes of Tesco or the Coop are up to, its as much on a different scale as a country shop whose entire displayed alcohol stock could be carried away in a fish box is compared to what the Coop and Tesco do, and it tells its own story that all of them have had to be lumped together to try and make the report say what they want it to say. George.
As opposed to telling the truth. If NHS Shetland came up with the truth they would probably be laughed at slightly less than they are at present
