In my 50 odd years of eating from chip shops I have never seen this before. Someone in one of the chip shops said this was the norm in certain parts of Scotland. To me it doesn't seem right. It would seem to make sense doing it in that order. Would the vinegar not wash off the salt otherwise?! Suffererof1crankymofo Posted January 9, 2017 Report Share Posted January 9, 2017 As a teenager I worked in a fish and chip shop and was taught to put the salt on first.I don't eat fish and chips with salt and/or vinegar, it's really annoying to be asked and before you've had chance to give a reply, the assistant has already whacked them on and then gets the huff if you ask for a fresh lot.
