Thought the celebrity involvement was a good idea and added something new. Who could they get for next year...

Wagner seemed to be enjoying himself, and being chased by all da lasses. Certainly different, but do you not have to live in Lerwick for 5 years before you can take part?

Non Shetland musicians are allowed.

That’s right enough Muckle joannie, I suppose the question would be, is someone singing and undoubtedly the main part of your act really a musician? I mind many years ago getting a warning from a committee member as we had included our musician, a chap fae Da country, in a small part of our act. They have maybe mellowed a bit now though.

Was entertaining to watch though and he looked like he was having a great time, which is all a great advert for Shetland.

Frances why would you need to go to the toon to see the Don when he has already visited you (photographic evidence) or is that one of those lookalikes? I hope you had reestit mutton soup & other Shetland delicacies to offer him.

The term "musician" being very loosely interpreted on this occasion, obviously.

Never heard of the guy before, and if I never hear him again it'll be far too soon. But, if it worked for them, no such thing as bad pubicity and all that.....

What are you folks thinking of this?

Group steps up effort to register mixed squad http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/16870-group-steps-up-efforts-to-register-mixed-uha-squad

It's interesting to see that they're trying 'official' channels. They've taken quite a bashing for associating themselves with the 'Me too' movement though!

We can set up a poll. Getting the question right will be key.

How about

"Should women be able to participate in Lerwick Up Helly-Aa as squad members? Yes / no"

Give this post a like if you think that covers it, or make a suggestion

How about;

[TROLL ON]

"Should women stick to making soup and bannocks and keep their noses out of things that are none of their business" :twisted:

[TROLL OFF]

In all honesty, a poll would be interesting but, the only poll that really matters would be held by the UHA organisation itself, and I get the distinct impression that there is not one of the squads willing to "break ranks".
