haha I had my family down in englad watching it, they love it. I find it a shame they cant get here for Up-Helly-Aa I think they would enjoy it!

I watched it last night, I thought it was super. :-) Never went to a hall but I bet it was all fantastic!

Congrats to everyone this year!

I've never been particularly interested in estimating the numerical sizes of crowds, nor indeed do I know how that is generally done. I was, however, somewhat surprised yesterday to note the relative size of the crowds viewing the morning procession from the Legion to the pier. Despite the rain and wind there seemed, to me, to be quite an increase compared to last year (which itself was large). Others I've mentioned this to seem to agree.

I wonder why this was the case. Is it simply increasing general interest, increased tourism, or a desire to support the event to spite the elements?

We were standing just below the War Memorial on the corner . Just before procession started off there was a crowd surge . In the spaces reserved for disabled parking the crowd lined up in front of them . One gentleman on crutches got out of his car and asked them to move . They did until more people moved in ! As the procession moved off the Paps moved in and actually going in between guizers to get in the centre of procession to take their pictures . The Marshals had a fiendish job trying to move them and public so the procession could move forward . Where were the police ? Three of them standing outside the Registrar Office didn't seem to notice .

Anybody mention the jarl's squad rig-oot this year? I thought it was pretty damn good, a lot of effort in by the squad themselves and a good 'traditional' end result. A good squad too.

That Slantigirt Flably act did get a lot of praise, nicely done.
