All it would take is just one person to take one of at least two entirely seperate simple and easily done courses of action, and the LK UHA in its present form is very much in jeopardy....

...I respect the fact the event means a significant amount to a significant throng of folk, so I'm not about to give up what they are...

Oh merciful Ghostrider, thank you for restraining your mighty wisdom for the good of the festive throng!  We know that, at any time, you could unleash your powers and "nothing about UHA will ever be the same again." Praise be to Ghostrider! Your place in Valhalla is surely assured.

Well it ain't exactly rocket science to work it out ...

... in the meantime, anyone not a fan of UHA continues to put up with the inconveniences as a result thereof with it affecting public services, post service, shops shut, no grocery deliveries ...

^ Orangemen and fox hunt participants once considered themselves in unassailable positions in their respective communites too. Nobody and nothing is too big or too well established to evade the consequences of changing public attitudes and standards indefinitely.

A fair and balanced comparison. Meanwhile, back on Earth...

... anyone with half a brain would appreciate that just commenting on a thread doesn't constitute a complaint. ;-)

Yup, religous intolerance, animal cruelty and sexism all seem to be equally frowned upon in the ragged remnants of Blair's touchy feely, fluffy, PC nanny state society. Not like in the good old days when the 'H' block'ers that wouldn't eat were left to get on with dieing, and barely anyone blinked an eye, is it.

The point isn't whether or not women want to take part in the Lerwick UHA or not - I've been in squads in the country in the past and had a great time, but it's probably a case of 'been there, done that' for me.

It's about the simple fact that I don't have the CHOICE, simply because I don't have the right internal plumbing.

In this day and age, that simple fact is ridiculous, it's shameful, it's embarrassing, and frankly it's all a bit Trumpy.

...for one day of the year.

Blimey.

I never knew that they built the galley, made all the kit an did all the rounds of 'ospickles, orphanages, homes for the dangerously daft and New York all in just one day.

This has changed my stance on the subject completely, Roachmill. If it's only for one day then I'm sure that we can all happily endorse the slightly embarrassing, early-20th-century-throwback 'no gurls' misogyny that is being hotly defended by the party faithful. I'm glad we got that sorted out quickly  :thmbsup

Now.......what else can we whinge about?

The shops are shut, no post etc. for 1 day. See the winge above my previous post for all the gory details!

I hope this doesn't lead to a stampede North to Marys shop at Aywick on UHA day.

I don't want all them Tooneys coming up here with their big shiny cars and queer ways, nicking all the buns and talking funny

Noooooo, you mentioned 'queer'. ;-)
