Colin
Was in at Tesco's this week and, on the way out, was accosted <G> to two very charming police women.. They asked me if I wanted a a "Keep Calm and Hang Up" brochure which outlines the various types of telephone/email scam that most of us are so very familiar with. Decided to accept their very kind offer but, explained that, "as I work in IT, I did not think it would be of much use to me". Anyway, when I got home, I read it and thought it was very clear and would be really helpful to a lot of people who, perhaps, are not familiar with the methods used by "cold callers" +1 to the police for "crime Prevention" However, I was disappointed to discover that the last 3 pages were an advert/testimonials for something called "Truecall".Bit off(?) (and I could be wrong) but, I always thought that the Police were not supposed to "promote" or "lend credence" to these type of things. 1.I wonder, when their (the police) time could have been better used clamping down on vehicles using "the street" or speeding(?) along the Esplanade, if the police themselves realised that they were being used to promote a device marketed (presumably, at an inflated price) by a private company? 2.I wonder why it was the police who were in Tesco handing out the brochure and, not SIC Trading Standards? 3.I wonder why this brochure has not been "mass mailed" to every address on Shetland. Far more effective than "wasting police time" by having them hand it out in shops.
MuckleJoannie
According to the Shetland News the police in Shetland have been made aware of a growing number of telephone scams. http://www.shetnews.co.uk/newsbites/14042-police-and-trading-standards-warning-over-phone-scams
Colin
Sister in law got a good one yesterday.. Apparently, #### from BT Openreach phoned and told her that her broadband Tel No was different from her Voice Tel No.. Most persistent as, apparently, engineers were waiting at the exchange to correct(?) the problem. All she had to do was start up her computer....... BigMouth
Mine was a free heating system, paid for by the government. I like them to go through their spiel and then just reply with "hello". They repeat it again, and I just say "hello" again. Usually they get bored before I do.
MuckleJoannie
I had a call from the TSB Bank of Scotland the other day. He was very annoyed when I wouldn't give him my mobile number so I could see Bank of Scotland come up on the caller display. So annoyed that he would let the fraudulent bank transfer he was calling about go through.
