With the High School moving, I think the current car park and adjacent playing field would make an excellent campsite in da toon. The grass area excellent for pitching tents and the car/bus park excellent for caravans and campervans.

It would be a big boost to tourism and make up for the loss at Click-him-in.

or we could turn it into a building site :-(

If they don't choose to use the old AHS as a campsite then it would be worth considering using the councils *hitehouse in a similar manner. Tents could be put up in the car park and there are certainly enough toilet facilities. The people working there at present could either take early retirement, or move over to the new jobs available as the tents do have to be put up and somebody needs to do it. Of course, they could just be sacked and employees that are actually capable of carrying out their job could be brought in.

If this document is the latest published development brief it looks like there's still a long way to go with the AHS site. The initial rough plan (see page 14 of the pdf) shows the east side of the AHS is going to remain a green space. The west side earmarked for housing, a large chunk in the middle for "mixed use" and the listed buildings remaining. A disclaimer does say this could be subject to significant change though.

will they let out the hostels in the holidays to make money?

Now that is an excellent idea.  They do that at some of the boarding schools and universities south for summer school.

Not only for Summer School..........some universities rent out rooms to tourists and travellers (of any age) at really good prices.  I am thinking of staying in a LSE hall of residence in London (central London at that) for about £35 a night including breakfast.  If it works for them then why not for the AHS?.

Exactly.  My youngest daughter spends the last week of every term bundling up her stuff and shoving it into boxes to go into storage (as, thankfully Shetland is considered overseas in the UK!) while her college rent out her room to whoever is doing whatever course in her town

(Oxford, thank you for thinking!)
