The town centre is suffering from high rates, impossible access (squared off speed bumps) & limited accessible free parking - this is killing off the local business's. Another empty premises unless it's bought over by someone. Also something is stirring in the roulette wheel that is Osla's/Paparazzi/Monterey Jack's or whatever it may turn out to be next.... Admittedly it wasn't clear whether that included the lease of the business it currently contains, but regardless, thats an awful lot of cups of coffee, handbags, toories, ear-rings or whatever to shift to cover that, plus other overheads and make a living from it. Greedy landlords are the largest part of the decline of the street. Coffee and Keetchin - preferred it when it was run by Cope. Service was a bit slow then, but great otherwise. On the plus side, there seems to be something happening with the old Oslo's building, someone opening up something in the old Hydro shop building and heard that Da Noost has been sold. Not 100% sure what is going to be opening in the old Hydro shop or Oslo's. But as I have said before, anything is better than empty shops. As for the rent prices, it varies depending on the size, location, condition of the building etc. No shop is cheap plus the other bills like electricity etc, and it is a up-hill struggle to get a shop running and making profit, the first 3 years are the worse as any experienced shop keeper will tell you, Sadly though, a awful lot of shops don't survive 3 years, Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Adjusted for inflation some street shops were taking over the till forty years ago the equivalent of what today would be £1000 per day, every day. I seriously doubt anyshop on street is taking anywhere near that any day these days, let alone every day.
