Scorrie
I hope so, a bar that sells decent beer for folk that appreciate it rather than the God-awful present town centre scene? Bring it on. George.
Guest tiodylb17
Not a fan of Tenants or Carling Scorrie ? Id just like to go somewhere you can sit and relax with a drink and a bite to eat. I wonder what the concept will be for the revamped Noost premises , pub or eatery or a combination of both ? BigMouth
So Beervanna are going for a bar and deli as well as off licence sales ?CAFE bar deli. Sounds great. It would be good if there was a place in Lerwick that you could get a coffee and a snack in the evening.

As long as they decent ale as well, otherwise I'll have to become all enraged about alcohol consumption in Shetlund and rattle off an angry letter to the ST denouncing all purveyors of alcofrolic biber...buge...befridges......urp........... Lerwick antiques
You have forgotten about Dennis Coutts place and N-Graved will be empty after it moves to Bolts.
Ghostrider
What happened with the Hub or whatever it was called, the place selling clothes in the end of Greenwald's next Dennis Coutts? They announced before Christmas they were closing.... Also round the corner, next the MP/MSP office, where Fired Up, was it? were. Didn't they move someplace else. Who moved in? Lerwick antiques
That was N-Graved that moved to bolts next to the MP office. Don't think there is anything in the old hub place either.
Lerwick antiques
There seems to be hardly anyone interested in starting up a small shop or business on Commercial street. Why? high rent? lack of footfall? or just no one interested in trying anything new?
wotsit
I counted 14 empty or soon to be empty shops, at about mid morning today, and hardly a soul in the street. It was more like a Sunday. How these shops make a honest living I will never know.Very sad state of affairs indeed.
MuckleJoannie
I heard that the Noost had a massive water leak from the top floor so don't expect it to reopen soon.
Lerwick antiques
About 14 empty shops sounds about right, not forgetting the old Spiders Web shop at the south end opposite the Queens hotel. Us surviving shops are trying our best but it is a struggle. Saturday used to be a very busy day on da street, now it is the worst day of the week. Ghostrider
^ Both high rent and low footfall, I'd say. Plus a lack of product lines you could stock that have a realistic chance of creating a profitable long-term business. Its either there already, been tried and failed, or you couldn't expect to compete against other outlets. It seems strange we cannot sustain some sort of computer and/or mobile phone and/or office supplies shop in Shetland that carries a reasonable stock at reasonable prices given how much of that kind of thing is around these days, but the evidence says, 'no'. To name just one potential field thats been tried more than once, and failed.
