George.
Big stuff, you have to take to the dump yourself. You don't need to take big stuff to the dump yourself. The S. I. C. provide a Bulky Uplift Collection service. They charge for it, and they have done since they took all the skips away. You didn't pay to use the skips but that didn't stop them. Space
They should bring back the skips. It wouldn't take an awful lot to monitor ill-use plus bringing them back would benefit the community greatly. If only there was an effective way to monitor littering by road users and find the culprits. mikeyboy
They look really good and made in Shetland as well. Not bad for £15 ETLerwick
Whatsaface
Bought one from Brae building centre..got to say works a treat...simple design, excellent quality. If it lasts 43 years then I'll be 90 before I need to chase after my bin and flyaway rubbish! Which it just as well s'pose.
Suffererof1crankymofo
They look really good and made in Shetland as well. Not bad for £15Are you kidding me? I'd be ashamed of it. In one example, the screw holes are uneven, the 'finish' is enough for many firms to sack people for it not being up to standard. wotsit
Wheelsup
^^ On that recommendation i'll definitely buy one. But what a miserable comment ETLerwick
mikeyboy
Just the usual, I think they are good for the money and locally produced so am willing to forgive a little roughness. One example in a pic has a strange offset but the rest look OK. Will check them out when I get home.
Whatsaface
You can definitely tell they're hand-made, but I'll tell you.. they're of a heavy solid build quality. It actually looks and feels like it'll last a lifetime, not like some cheap mass produced tat. And it works..wheelie bin is going nowhere.. that's enough for me! mikeyboy and ETLerwick
Space
Interesting article, compostable plastic packaging:http://www.bbc.com/news/business-43390938If ideas like that work including factors of cost and carbon footprint, then the last stop for a lot more packaging would be the heap in your back garden. George.
Want to highlight this -- questions answered if you ask: https://www.shetland.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/recycling-faq.asp Who Ray! In https://www.shetland.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/recycling-faq.asp it states that, "The purple reusable bag is for taking glass bottles and jars to your recycling point." Perhaps you could tell us where these recycling points are supposed to be across Shetland, and if they are accessible in any way or form for people that are either less able than they would prefer, and those of us that do not drive? I ask regarding those of us that don't drive as I doubt that we will be allowed on the bus with too much garbage. Hoorah, yawn. Edited April 11, 2018 by George. Popular Post Suffererof1crankymofo
Highlights:- "Three years ago, ZWS allowed the council to burn much of its household waste in the incinerator as it was deemed the "best practicable environmental option", but that special derogation is unlikely to be renewed." (http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/15147-sic-keen-to-import-more-waste-from-mainland) DID THE SIC RE-APPLY FOR THE LICENCE? Isn't it refreshing to know that in these days of austerity, the SIC can afford to pay their staff to attend a drop-in session at one of the halls on a BANK HOLIDAY.Still no sign of the new shed. Re-cycled rubbish going to be shipped south, right? Edited April 11, 2018 by Suffererof1crankymofo George., brecken and Ghostrider
