Muckle Oxters
http://www.shetnews.co.uk/newsbites/17095-survey-launched-on-food-and-drink-market I'd have thought most folk would be in favour of such a thing so I wonder why there isn't one already? Is there not a market for a market? This might be a good time to do it, with the downturn in the local fossil fuel industry. Fishing has always been the backbone of the local economy. But might need some fresh new thinking?
blue beetle
At the Voe show a couple of years ago there was a stand selling fried small whole haddocks , They were fresh tasty cooked to perfection and for the record I ate six, There was also the usual burger/sausage fry up going on. As I observed the two food outlets I was amused and as a Shetlander ashamed by the size of the queue at each outlet. There was three people waiting for the fish . All from Whalsay by the way and at least sixty waiting for a burger. So in my opinion if the Voe show crowd is any reflection of the eating habits of the rest of Shetland They are wasting their time. Muckle Oxters
That's a good point When we have visitors up they often ask if there's a seafood restaurant in Shetland, but I s'pose there's just not the market amongst locals to sustain anything so specialist. But local restaurants usually have at least a couple of local seafood options. Maybe the proposed seafood marketplace would stimulate the local market? Nigel Bridgman-Elliot
> There was three people waiting for the fish . All from Whalsay by the way and at least sixty waiting for a burger. Don't restrict it to just a fish place, call it something like "The Carnivore Cave" and sell all fish/meat products, including burgers.
