A reality check on wind power, it should not be a major player in any sensible energy strategy.

Yeah, it's lucky the VE project doesn't have this problem, with a predicted load factor of >50%. It makes sense to build the windfarms where the wind is.

It would have been better if VE had put up one windmill of the type they are proposing to use rather than all the wind monitoring masts.

We cannot afford for the windmills to be of a 'Proven' standard, and the Shetland public could see what they thought of it.

Once they get 150 of them, it is a bit late then to say we should have went for something else.

Although the cost would be millions of pounds, it is probably better than nearly a billion pounds.

If you were a transport operator, it would be insane to buy 150 trucks before evaluation of the model could fully ascertain its suitability.

What happens if the supplier of the turbines goes out of business in the future for spares and back-up?

The SIC have an enviable record of getting their fingers burnt with past investments, but risk setting fire to their whole arm with this !

Wind turbine bursts into flames as hurricane-force winds hit Scotland

The turbine in a North Ayrshire wind farm caught fire on Thursday afternoon as storms hit the country.

This does not bode well, imho.
