no shetlandpeat they are pretty quite. they have strict limits. like everything they improve with experiance. they do make money on the goverment grant but the power sold back will become more important in future. well it will when the new grid system is up and running.

unlink its still a profit if your not having to pay the leckyboard plus the sale of excess power. i did not notice any in the sumburgh area but including the one we are planning we have quite a few people putting them up on the westside.

viking is not paying for the interconnecter is nowt to do with them. its the power company thats coughing up the cash for that scheme.

Viking opposition grows

ALMOST 4,000 individuals and organisations have written to the Scottish government’s Energy Consents Unit to comment on the proposed Viking Energy wind farm development, in Shetland.

Of the 3,850 responses, 71 per cent (2,736) have voiced their opposition to the 457 megawatt wind farm proposal, while 29 per cent (1,114) have written in support.

The figures from the ECU also show that more than 85 per cent of all responses received were sent from Shetland.

Kevin Learmonth, of Sustainable Shetland, said: “People have told the government’s planning authority that they don’t want the wind farm. These are overwhelming figures.

Well.

No more chance of getting free electricity because we have a wind-farm than there is of getting free heating oil or petrol because we have Sullom Voe.

EU rules and treasury rules wouldn’t allow it if we were connected to the national grid and SSE wouldn’t agree because they would have to offer the same elsewhere in Scotland.

Paulb...The ECU figures are the ONLY ones that matter.

71% "AGAINST" VE.

If all these "hoards" of supporters put in their letters to the ECU, where are they??

If the objectors are better letter writers, perhaps the supporters should have stayed at school longer..

This rubbish about cheaper electricity is pure fantasy and immoral blackmail from pro VE supporters.

The Shetland Times poll should of been a tracker poll, but wasn't because the ST/Paul Riddel is are big supporters of VE.

I don't waste 90p a week anymore.

prove that fact.

How can the poster prove that fact Paulb, given that a referendum of the entire population here has not been carried out? However, in light of what information has been made available in the public domain, I distinctly remember reading in the Shetland Times something along the lines of that a lot of protesters were from South Mainland (Edit: in response to one of their polls)

It was on the BBC Shetland news at lunchtime that the Charitable Trust was going to be asked to make grants to people in fuel poverty. However the CT cannot afford it at the moment.

But if Viking Energy produces the promised returns the CT may be able to pay such a grant. Why I am I suspicious about all this?

you really think you would get a 15% cut if there were no turbines. you will still pay it for carbon catcher or nuclar.

i asked the poster to prove it was not going to make a profit. the only realistic example that we can use is our current turbine farm. this is highly profitable more so than they expected.

^^^ Paulb says that "Viking is not paying for the interconnecter is nowt to do with them. its the power company thats coughing up the cash for that scheme."

Don't know if this is true or not, Paulb; is it not so that the SCT/VE cooperative plan to take out gigantic loans to fund the interconnector? From 'our' money, at what risk?
