And how may turbines didn't collapse yesterday? Oh that's right. All the others. Hundreds of them.

How many more have collapsed but haven't been reported?

Meanwhile, SS have made a complete shambles of their judicial review case. What a bunch of nimbys. No, I meant numpties. No wait, I was right the 1st time. Or maybe it's both?

Oh dear. You're obviously not very familiar with the tactics QCs use. It isn't uncommon for there to be deliberate mistakes in the pleadings so that a case gets to Court rather than not proceeding at all. It is quite common for further parties to join the proceedings. Bet you don't play chess either.

strange ours kept running. not seen any burning turbines up here.

so there only case is the whimbrel and its decline. I wonder how committed they are to the protection of this rare migrating bird. Are they prepared to match the moor improvements that viking are going to do.

has anyone calculated the increase in hatch rates if these improvements are made.

are the commited to stopping traffic across there flight paths. removing power lines and culling off the preditors of them.

or are we to assume that once they spoil the viking energy scheme they will be happy to see the poor whimbrel vanish.

I wonder if the SS lot would be willing to go to law if they were faced by the full costs of this law case.

@paulb - Wow, I wasn't aware the Court had released a transcript yet. The press have probably only reported on part of the hearing so far.

And in case anyone is wondering, you can sometimes get a situation (albeit not always) where you try to file a case in one country's court but if it falls under UK or even EU law that you end up with a delay getting them to decide which Court has jurisdiction. You get your foot in the door in one, said legal biggie takes advice and then it proceeds under Directions and might get transferred to the other country's court. Tis better than not getting your case in court at all.

only if there was a real case to answer. remind me again what court case did SS bring to protect the otters and marine wildlife in yell sound.

There is a real case to answer.

Crumbs, you don't half seem to think that SS should be responsible for every single environmental issue in Shetland. Tell me, paulb, which court case did YOU bring to protect the otters and marine wildlife in Yell Sound? Oh, you didn't? If you're that bothered, why don't you start a group?

Anyway, Ghostie advises me that he thinks there was something back in the 70s about Yell Sound - what did S.O.T.E.A.G do?

And how may turbines didn't collapse yesterday? Oh that's right. All the others. Hundreds Thirty Five Thousand of them.

How many more have collapsed but haven't been reported?

Given the obsessive and fanatical opposition to windfarms in the right-wing press which swarms all over any perceived flaw in the turbines, I would guess:- none.

So here we are again girnin about something that will never happen.

SSE only want the inter connecter not turbines but they have to seem like they want this then soon as interconnector is approved drop the scheme and build a big profitable gas station(first phase already on the cards) check how much land they have acquired for the new station to add phase 2,3 and 4. we are going to be suckers again.

that would make sense. i wonder what a gas pipeline costs in comparison. it would generate a lot of skilled jobs. could easily be built at sullom. what a good idea. but it would have to be a lot bigger interconnector that what is planned.

There were a few more casualties due to the wind, but you are correct - thousands didn't collapse.

Have another look at the pictures, a clear case of sabotage, someen screwed aff the nuts. I wonder who ?

You may be right!

I spoke to some of the SSE staff a couple of months ago when they exhibited plans for the gas pipeline at the museum. The pipeline goes right through the area where the windmills are to go. If the pipeline happens the windmills won't.

The proposed route for the pipeline can be seen here

No, it doesn't make any sense at all. There are already pipelines laid to take west coast gas into the east coast network via Sullom, which runs to St Fergus. Why on earth would they want to generate the power in Shetland then send it south over an interconnector, when they can just pipe it straight to St Fergus.

More pointless scaremongering.

*IF* it was sabotaged, the spanner work was probably done previously, on a fine night, nuts probably just slackened, not removed, and physics did the rest when the strong wind arrived.
