this wind farm had the same issues raised and to be honest i think this is a more realistic level of construction. the campaign against the farm voiced all the same complaints as have been raised here. and at 50million a lot cheaper and smaller than those up here.

wind farms are not as bad as you think.

1. It would be impossible to have a referendeum as the options you would require to give people would challenge the magna carta for size.

... in a more ideal world, but I beg to differ...

Obviously there is not and never was going to be a public vote on this issue, however is there not just 1 option to consider here:

Option 1 - the VE/SSE proposed windfarm to construct 154 3MW 145m tall wind turbines, 70k access roads, 9 quarrys, converter station and interconnector cable.

Do you support option 1? answer "Yes" only ...you don't get the chance to vote "No" to this question

It would be great if there could be further options to consider however the Busta House agreement has probably committed us to option 1 therefore discussion closed.

There is not even an option to do nothing let alone do someting fit for scale to benefit the local community.

Paulb....The VEP is unlike any other in the UK, it is relying on Shetlands oil money(OUR MONEY), to be used as collateral, it is a huge financial risk.

Don't you realise how big this is going to be?

I suggest you circumnavigate the area, you will soon realise it is not just the Lang Kames.

476ft high turbines on hills up to 900ft in height.

Giant quarries some dug into the head waters of important burns, that run into SSSI lochs containing wild Trout with DNA undsturbed for thousands of years.

I'm sorry that you feel Enviromental damage on this scale on a small offshore Island group is acceptable, I Don't.

You may change your mind when the EIA comes out, i think you will be in for a shock.

Ched...The Busta House agreement must be public knowledge, if this is truly a community based project,

There is no time for apathy now, it's too late once it has gone to planning, and the interconnector and converter station beng a seperate issue is oh so ever a convienience for them.

Yes, I agree totally. I am not resigned to this thing happening, quite the contrary, I was just stating the "option" as I see it... trying to express the injustice of the whole process.

^^^^^ What the council want more than anything else, is the planning permission, it would give them something to sell. The VEP, won't use up all of the capacity far from it , thus giving scope for other wind farm companys to join the band wagon, as Shetland could in theory be one giant wind factory, fears for Fetlar but more especially Yell, here it's been thought of in the past for 200 turbines, but since dropped.

so pj what would you be in favour of. if you looked at the url you would find out that this wind farm was accused by the eco lobby of ripping up a rare peat land i know this site and it has a lot more wildlife on it than our bogs. you will note that they are helping restore other areas of the area. they seem to have put there 25 turbines in a lot smaller area than proposed up here. if your hoping that some quango is going to stop this from happening it wont. again just for the record im not in favour of how they are going ahead with there plans. i feel that smaller farms can be built and if the impact is torrable then extend them. what impact has our current turbines had.

^^^^^More wildlife than our bogs? google some of the scientific papers on Shetlands Blanket Bog, or get in touch with Paul Harvey at the Shetland Amenity Trust.

Just to let you know who we are dealing with, out on the Western Isles, they are having a lot of trouble with SHETL, they want to put pole and overhead transmission lines over crofts and homes to join a huge converter station at Gravir.

SHETL insists it could force the building of the transmission system on and over crofts if it feels necessary.

Nice to know Shetland is in good hands.

is this a future job blanket bog promoter. what is an acre of blanket bog worth in money terms. if those crofters were to suffer the the shetl building transmission lines on there land they get paid for it. as i have said before its a man made creation felling the trees allowed the conditions for it to develope. if you think the poor peat bog arguement is going to stop this scheme it wont. sorry to be a kill joy but the looks of it will not stop it either. you know or should do that even if the SIC were to reject the planning application(which of course they are not seeing it was there idea in the first place) the developers would just appeal and they will win that. lets face it the mainland of the uk does not give a stuff for what happens up here so they will allow it to happen. look at sullom voe would that have happened in the centre of london.

your only chance of altering it is if you can turn it into a real community energy company.

the farming/ crofting community is going to be looking for an alternative income stream for there land and at £4000 per annum for each turbine i think you would get quite a few willing partners. it as the advantage that the sheep etc. can still use the site so apart for a few square metres of concrete.

as i said your not going to be able to stop it have a read and take a guess at what will happen.

If it ever gets planning permission,it would take another year to build the cable, thats if they get a licence first, and i wouldn't be too happy living in the Weisdale valley, when my house price falls through the roof, and all the other houses located in and around the wind factory.

And as for tourism, well bye-bye.

Wer'e on an Island, we can't just drive away from it, or easily shift to another destination.

Pray tell, what's in it for me??
