Unless the 'selling' site has been deliberately enabled with a 'back door', I don't see how it can be done. I would be horrified to discover that the secure servers used for processing ticket sales/credit card transactions would/could be compromised in this way.Any proof Neil or is it just hearsay/conspiracy theory used to pad out yet another Ebay bashing story? There is no "compromisation" of the servers. The touts purchase the tickets legitimatly through the websites, but they have automated ways of doing so. Whether it is as simple as using Google Toolbar or Roboform, or slightly more complex where the tout actually creates a script that will fill in the form and buy as many tickets as it can. Isn't the onus then on promoters/ticket agents to incorporate measures in their sites to block automated applications, if they genuinely want to see the practice eliminated? Not my field of expertise, by a very long shot, but need it be any more complicated than incorporating that randomly generated squiggly/distorted letter/number code (sorry, the term for it escapes me right now), that many sites have, that you have to read and manually insert in a box. They also have a system that locks you out of the website if you create too much traffic in a short period of time...which can be a real bitch if you are just searching for venues/gigs. I don't believe for a second that touts sell everything that they acquire, so there will be empty seats that could have been filled by someone to whom the event matters. However, from what I have seen, touts will then just sell the tickets below face value to recoup some of the money they shelled out on them. For example, a friend of mine managed to get tickets to see Morrissey in Dundee in April from eBay. When tickets went onsale they were £30 each, he got 2 tickets from ebay for £27.
