Some self employed are having to survive in next to nothing, I’m sure some footballer on millions can’t afford to rake a small hit for a period of time. There’s no more to it than that. There may be hangers on and agents to pay yet they manage to buy ferraris and lamborghinis that they aren't equipped to drive, and shrug their shoulders when they crash them.The footballer in the news lately who had a birthday treat during the lockdown is a case in point. He organised a couple of "escorts" for a night of fun and paid them £1200 in the morning. This same footballer obviously can't afford to take a pay cut during a pandemic.What really bugs me is buying cheap crap football shirts for my grandchildren, a mere £54 each, with the name of a footballer printed on. (Whaat!) Probably made in India with child labour for 50 pence and sold here to parents who struggle to afford it, just so the football hierarchy and overpaid players can live the high life. The whole football business is corrupt, just look at the scandals that have erupted concerning FIFA and the multi million pound crookery involved.The fans are paying through the nose, the single parents are going into debt buying kit for their kids, and the fatcat football heroes can't afford a pay cut.Give me a break! Football players are "contracted" employees and you just cannot tear up/amend a contract when it suits. It takes agreement from both sides. If you had followed the link I posted earlier, and studied the data it contained, you would recognise that not all footballers are "multi millionaire players" although I would agree that nearly all of them could "take a hit" on their contracts. After all, whilst they are not playing, they are "worthless" to their clubs. However, I would argue that footballers are just the "low hanging fruit" that is easily picked (on). There are company bosses that earn far more in wages and bonuses than any footballer does. What of them?Do you think that the whole world should take a pay cut just because the Chinese have exported yet another virus ? Players calling supporters, delivering food parcels, donating to foodbanks, donating to the NHS, clubs producing kits with 5 pound of the sale going directly to the NHS, buying PPE etc etc. Like most things in this world if you dig a bit you can find a bit of scandal but its important not to group every person who plays football and stereotype them in a negative light, good n bad in all walks of life. Average premier league first team player salary £3.2m Average FTSE CEO salary £3.4m So not much difference except there are (by the definition) only 100 FTSE100 CEOs and there are over 500 Premier league players. I am a football fan and realise that players are paid what they are worth to their clubs but I would have furloughed the lot of them.
