  5. Met Simon and Garfunkel down the pub, they told me every way I look at it I lose. Have decided to declare myself a republic of one.
  6. Ah I see, interesting, tell me was the need to start war so that things may exist your one defining reason for needing a gun.? Does this band in our country smuggle them in, in guitar cases.? Reading back through these posts of yours, well there has been so much to absorb and I'll tell you this para you've given me a lot to think about on ideas of how a gun could possibly be of some use. I think I'll leave you to it anyhow, thanks it's been far out man, and erm good luck with your war thing.
  7. I get the feeling that you could happily continue this arguement in an empty room by yourself. I see many are trying and failing to get through to you the difference between tools and weapons, one being made to make life easier and the other designed to destroy life. if you could just clarify what defines the need for a gun, "no more death scenario comparisons please, we get that bit" yes there are lots of ways to die. Just where in that sum though does the introduction of guns help to improve death statistics. (no war storys now, thats cheating)

The 19 year old would not likely announce his intentions from the other end of the street, he would most likely get up close and personal before launching a surprise attack the old man would most likely be defeated, if he tried to pull a gun he would likely lose that, most likely his life as well, oh and the mugger would now have 2 guns, one for his pal maybe. para quote: You think maybe the BNP wouldn't try to arm their hive of insects with legal guns.? para quote: Not enough obviously, or why would you wish to top up the number of cancer deaths by adding on many unnecessary gun deaths. para quote: pinched from another thread after being pinched from an analysis on Bush:
  9. Para handy wrote: reQuote, "sorry but I think someone missed it first time" In the United States approximately 30 000 people die from firearm injuries each year. Many more are wounded. In the mid 1980s, more than 3000 of the dead were children and adolescents aged 1 to 19 years. In 1989 nearly 4000 firearm deaths were among children aged 1 to 19, accounting for 12% of all deaths in that group. All of these deaths or injuries affect other children because the victims who are killed or wounded are frequently relatives, neighbors, or friends. 1987, 203 children aged 1 to 9 years. 484 children aged 10 to 14 years. And 2705 adolescents aged 15 to 19 years died as a result of firearm injuries. Firearm deaths include unintentional injuries, homicides, and suicides. Among the 1- to 9-year-olds, half of the deaths were homicides and half were unintentional. Among the 10- to 14-year-olds, one third of the deaths were homicides, one third were suicides, and one third were unintentional. Among the 15- to 19-year-olds, 48% were homicides, 42% were suicides, and 8% were unintentional. Firearm homicides are the leading cause of death for some US subpopulations, such as urban black male adolescents and young adults. Anyway besides all that I dont much like the plan of guns to even the odds. There have been many times in my life where a gun would have been ideal for just this, but on hindsight it's just as well I didn't have one. A child with a handgun would still be at a disadvantage against a determined drunk driver, he could duck down behind the steering wheel.

My typing is by no means perfect, dont take everything so personal, the reason I mentioned your atrocious spelling and crazy punctuation, was just to point out that even with experience and training, mistakes can happen and I am just glad it is your posts I am facing when they do and not the barrel of your shooter.
  11. And by the way Para, if after 157 posts your are still missing every punctuation and spelling target available, it may be best to rethink the desired policy, before taking your .44 out to clean up these streets.

You can stuff as many blacks, muslims and jews on the same bus as me as you please, I fail to see the connection. The pistol owner whose gun saved his life in 1941 might be getting on a bit, so it might be best for him to hang up his guns. Tell him Hitler wont be running up and down whitehall looking for work cause He's dead, that war is over. If you see I have got to the stage where I'm in london singing about the horror of peanuts and booze, then you have my full permission to shoot me in the head, but as of yet my paranoia hasn't got to the stage that I dive for cover everytime someone pulls out a bag of peanuts. some "sane" Americans wrote: ------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- http://www.guncite.com/cnngunde.html parahandy wrote: Thanks all the same but that's one social eqaulity I would rather postpone.
  13. I was reading this and thinking, "Well good on the guy, if that had been me I would have been tempted to pop one in his knee as well just to remind him not to mug me again." But then what if you repeated the scenario with a million victims and a million muggers with a million knives, throw in some more guns for the muggers and see what happens. Yeah you'll get a good few crooks executed, maimed or successfully arrested, all good options, but I couldn't say how many of the victims would come a cropper through this course of action, but I'd bet there would be a fair few, by upping the anti you have put the mugger in a kill or be killed situation. Say your wife and kids were present, your fear factor would be increased, say the whole thing went pear shaped and the assailant shot you in the face, now your family has the elevated status of wittness to murder, which may not make their chances any better than yours. The countries with the most gun deaths per capita (by FAR) all have one thing in commong... citizens were legally allowed to own guns as of 1994 (US, Brazil, & Mexico). The countries with the lowest per-capita rates of gun deaths. Guns are illegal altogether. Unarmed victims wont have the advantage over their attacker, this may mean a couple of extra million dollar nicked by the black market but I bet there's less innocent bloodshed. That's America for you the value of the dollar over the value of a few thousand ordinary lives. The down side of this of course is that if Americans aren't killing one another there will be many more of them to put up with. For the record, if anybody sees me in a bit of bother and they have a loaded sawn off shotgun handy dont come running in waving and pointing it anywhere near me I'll take me chances thanks.
  14. You can phone them on 01595 69 3070 and you can order it on the phone out of the catallogue. I got full set of flat pack furniture delivered recently and toys and things before. Paid £6 freight and that was all. There was no charge for delivery by Truck to the north isles on smaller items, dont know for larger things cause I picked the flat pack up myself. They will phone and tell you when goods arrive, it takes about a week. It's not northward that delivers here though. Best to arrange pick up if your worried about extra charges. Happy with service to date.

  16. "In October 2006, heading into a conference on school safety following the shootings at an Amish school in Pennsvylvania, the White House was asked if the president might seek any new gun controls with this forum sponsored by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Education Secretary Margaret Spellings. “They will be talking about both the law enforcement and how to prevent violence, how to recognize it when it comes or recognize it before it starts,’’ Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino said. Had the president’s thinking about gun control “changed because of what’s happened in these incidents over the past few weeks?’’ she was asked. “Not that I've heard,’’ Perino said. “The purpose of this conference is to bring together the collective thinking of America, in terms of not only how we can help recognize violence and stop it before it happens, but to look at how we can make schools safer places to be, and also a good focus on how we can help communities heal, especially children heal.’’ On Monday, the day of the worst mass-shooting in the history of the United States, the White House was asked again if something needs to be done about gun control and school violence. “If there are changes to the president's policy we will let you know,’’ she said. “But we've had a consistent policy of ensuring that the Justice Department is enforcing all of the gun laws that we have on the books and making sure that they're prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.’’ And today, as President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush headed for the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., for a convocation for the 32 victims, the White House suggested that the “conversation’’ about gun control will continue – but not yet. “We understand that there is an ongoing national conversation about gun control We are going to be participants, the nation should ''allow the facts of the case to unfold as we talk any more about policies…The facts of this case need to unfold…We will participate in that (conversation), but today is not the day." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Concerned American parent quote: http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/04/bush_on_gun_con.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's a forum under this article link for an across the pond viewpoint.

  21. para handy wrote: "A Senate committee has taken a first step towards banning the country's 120,000-strong militia army from storing ammunition at home. It comes at a time of increased debate in Switzerland over the long-standing tradition of keeping army guns at home, and shock at the killing of more than 30 students in the United States' worst-ever shooting. It also follows a fatal shooting last week in the northern city of Baden when a 26-year-old Swiss emptied the magazine of his military rifle inside a hotel restaurant, killing one man and injuring four others. Speaking after Monday's 11-1 vote in favour of an ammunition ban, Hermann Bürgi, president of the Senate committee on security policy, denied that members had been influenced by recent events and media pressure. The proposal, which will now be examined by the seven-strong cabinet and parliament, would allow for around 2,000 specialist troops, such as those guarding airports and other important installations, to keep ammunition at home. The government would also be able to lift the ban in the event of a security crisis. Five years ago Switzerland was stunned when a gunman shot and killed 14 people in Zug's cantonal parliament with his army rifle, before turning the gun on himself. Debate on the use of firearms was further fuelled in April last year when the husband of former women's ski champion Corinne Rey-Bellet killed his wife and her brother with his army pistol." ---------------------------------------------------- No problems eh ? link
