  1. It has every right to be a news story! It's a story that everyone is talking about - right or wrong. The news agenda is set by a number of factors. Massive public interest is one of those factors.
  2. I can't wait for the show tonight! It's going to be compelling stuff. I think the fact no crowd will greet the evicted person means there will be a weird eerie atmosphere. I'm also wondering how tough Davina will be on Jade - presuming it is her that gets the heave-ho.
  3. What do you mean by this exactly Spinner?
  4. Shilpa DID say that she thought they were being racist about her. But it seems that the Channel Four producers have since spoken to her and said they don't think she's suffering racist abuse. Seems she's accepted this now.
  5. I think it's the continual barrage of aggro she's been getting that's led to her thinking there's something racist behind it. Plus Jermaine's been planting that seed. It's interesting she's come to this conclusion without actually have witnessed many of the comments that have been made.
  6. Fair point Spinner. But at least Shilpa actually does make the effort to cook. Jade and her feckless crones just sit there and expect to be fed like battery chickens, and then snipe like ungrateful swine when it's not to their liking. They should get off their ignorant arses and contribute something for the collective.
  7. Point taken Njugle! But I do think Big Brother is much maligned for all the wrong reasons. Sure, it's contrived but it does actually get people talking about real issues as human nature is displayed in the raw. Therefore I think it is natural for it to be compelling. As I have said before, the importance of the Big Brother house should not be underestimated. It generates much more interest than that other reality horror show at Westminster we call the Houses of Parliament. And I would argue the the people in the Big Brother house - Indian princess and brainless, skanky doughballs like Jade - are more representative of the UK population as a whole than the inmates inhabiting the House of Commons!
  8. It's just pretty sad that the appalling behaviour on the show is being carried out by three people from the UK. I agree with Spencey that there is some poetic justice in the fact that Jade will be destroyed by the very show that 'made' her. She really is a boot of the first order and symbolises all that is currently wrong with society. I guess you could feel sorry for her as she's had no strong role models in her life to tell her that she behaves like an ignorant baboon, and has only a demented goblin for a mother. But even the most maladjusted person - and Jade may be that person - should realise that she's a complete anus of a person and needs to change her ways. Her problem with Shilpa is totally derived from her own insecurities. I hate the way she also takes some sort of pride about mouthing off at somebody and not behind their backs. She seems to think this is the best possible thing someone could do! The idea of trying to be dignified and civil is completely alien. She's part of this idea in society that it's totally right to do whatever you feel like doing, man. She has no idea that people in society also have a responsibility to act respectfully to other people and treat people with genuine courtesy and respect rather than act like an ignorant bully all the time. Oof - needed to get that off my chest. As for the news coverage, I think it's great. It's either Celebrity Big Brother in the headlines or a boring story about interest rates or something. I know which story I'd rather watch!
  9. I have an inkling that it may have something to do with a verse in the Bible, although I'm not sure why I think this. Interesting fact - apparently Queen of the South are the only Scottish football club mentioned in the Bible!
  10. I am a Rangers fan and I don't know what 'We Are The People' means. Am I entitled to an explanation??
  11. I think the main problem with religion arises when people start talking about their beliefs with other people. Everyone has their own take. Nobody has the right to insist their take is better than anyone elses. The best course of action is to listen to someone's beliefs and leave it at that. It's like discussing who your favourite comedian is in the pub. The moment you try and insist that Eddie Izzard is in fact funnier than Ricky Gervais is the moment you come to blows with your best pal who thinks the exact opposite. One makes you laugh more, the other makes your pal laugh more. Why? Who knows. It's just another of the great mysteries of life. Leave it at that.
  12. Couldn't agree more - total lack of ambition if they go for Davies. Rangers just want some sort of comforting 'True Blue' after the failure of La Revolution.
  13. Here's the latest odds. http://www.willhill.com/iibs/EN/buildcoupon.asp?couponchoice=FB1517047
  14. I would go for Kevin Keegan.
  15. Goodbye PLG! Sad day for Rangers in my opinion. Will Barry Ferguson be the new player-manager?
  16. I basically agree with you JustMe. I think it's important to know here how exactly Dr. Russon was handing out these pamphlets. If he was giving them to his patients in the surgery during or just after consultation then I don't think that's right, and it would certainly seem to contravene guidelines. If however he was just handing them around the doors in his spare time - which the article doesn't make clear, but reading between the lines this is what I presume has happened - then I don't think his suspension is justified. He's entitled to freedom of speech. It's not as if people are boycotting him because of his beliefs and I also think it's ridiculously jumpy of NHS Shetland to suspend him after one complaint.
  17. We live in an age where if anyone claims offense at anything then the rule book is changed to 'protect' said offended person, regardless whether or not their claim of being offended is really valid or not. We all know that at the moment it's bordering on the ridiculous. The problem is the otherwise pretty excellent theory of democracy. The natural human instinct is to protect the vulnerable. So when a victim claims they are vulnerable the democratic way is to try and protect them. But unfortunately it's this same democratic wisdom that leads the majority in society in wanting to hang every criminal. By this I mean democracy does not always come to the best solution - merely a compromise. What we really need is a genuinely intelligent set of governors that can make informed decisions on behalf of society. There now exist people who are aware enough of how society works and know that if they push the right button then they can get a desired effect. Society needs to be more streetwise and less in thrawl to these people who so readily claim to be victims for their own peculiar gain.
  18. Fair point Ally. Playing cards has to feature, I suppose. But not necessarily. They could have replaced it with some other sort of parlour game - charades perhaps would have been funny, or Pictionary maybe, haha. Maybe even some sort of futuristic game like in Never Say Never Again would have been more exciting. But I guess they were never going to ditch the poker bit - it would be a major change from the book which could anger purists and also poker is very popular these days. I just think they should have done it better. Blood, water, whatever - he was a drip. I think on another day I might have liked the film a bit more - I was a bit tired after a busy day and I wasn't willing to give the film the benefit of the doubt. Having said that I really don't think it deserves the critical good press it had before release - although some of the later reviews weren't that great - and the overall hype was out of proportion. But I do seem to be in a minority - most people seem to think the film was pretty good.
  19. I was disappointed by the new Bond movie. I think it comes down to what you want from a Bond movie, and what I want is darkly funny moments. For example I liked bits when Sean Connery would kill somebody in a ruthless manner and then make a joke about it. I feel that death is taken far too seriously in this latest film. I also thought there was no chemisty between Bond and the woman. And as for scenes when they were playing cards - good grief, could it have been more boring? I don't understand poker and in fact I would go so far as to say I hate poker, based mainly on ignorance of how it works and also I associate it with fat, sweaty, husbands busy gambling away the family savings online. Ergo, crap subject matter for a Bond movie IMO. Should have been much briefer, or done better. The action scenes ranged from adequate to good - I did like the crane scene at the start. I also liked the final scene as it was quite snappy, and also the film finally ended after going on for some 6 hours - or so it felt. I couldn't always follow what was going on - this was the films fault, as I am not stupid. And the sound was crap at times and I couldn't hear what people said sometimes, and I'm not deaf and the cinema was ultra modern. That said, Daniel Craig had an impressive body, and I'm not gay. And the main baddie was crap. His big thing was that he had a watery eye when he got stressed?! This was pathetic. He may as well have had a runny nose! As for the product placement - I don't usually care about that sort of thing, but it was verging on the ridiculous. As a result I now own a Sony Ericsson phone, a Ford Focus and an Omega watch. 4/10.
  20. I think I have found a way to take football in Shetland forward. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6107012.stm It would certainly beat a friendly against Forres Mechanics!
  21. That really was incredible! I love these shows. They have masses of stunning visuals and huge amounts of emotion. Nature is just so fecking cruel! I was slightly pleased when the walrus got away from the polar bear but I almost couldn't stand it when the bear died!
  22. Just listened to the show from Distortio and it really is superb. The whole Zetcast project seems to be working really well! Well done to the guys behind it.
  23. It's fair enough to have this ponit of view Wheesht, and I agree with you that there is plenty wrong with the situation worth railing against. I also agree to an extent that some of the playing staff would like to play in Rhodes, but I also think that it doesn't matter enough to enough of them to actually do it. I accept there is a massive cost implication, but if going to Rhodes to defend the Island Games doesn't matter enough how else is Shetland football going to move forward? Playing several Highland League teams next year is all very well but it's a long way from the white heat of real tournament competition. There would also be cost implications if Shetland was to take part in a national competition. The only way around this is subsidy. Should public funds be used for this? If they were would Shetland send a team to Rhodes? I'm inclined to think they might.
