  1. Yeah that's just for fitting, they didn't encounter any problems, we didn't even have the kitchen in so there was nothing in the way. It's a simple case that whoever quoted me over the phone (160-180) didn't know what they were on about and wont own up to making a mistake under quoting me. I will definitely always get a written quote in the future, truth is if they'd have quoted me 300 in the first place i'd have told them where to go and spent a bit of time sourcing an alternative. I spoke to trading standards about it, needless to say they weren't very impressed but with lack of a writt

  3. It's now over £315. For less than half an hours work with practically no parts, just one pipe. Think i'm in the wrong business, ripping people off is obviously more profitable than what I do for a living! [/code]
  4. I would just like to take the time to warn everyone not to deal with Rearo in Shetland unless it is some kind of life or death emergency...and only then if you don't mind throwing your money away at what is without a doubt one of the worst companies I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. All I wanted was a simple gas cooker installation, phoned and was quoted a price, agreed and it was done......only to be sent an invoice for twice the quote. What ever happened to "the customer is always right" or even taking some responsibility for your own businesses poor staff training. All we
  5. steve fordyce always does ours and he is brilliant, moved it onto scaffolding and back onto the house for us recently and he'll always go out of his way to help. he got us a better dish also that doesn't rust to nothing in a year, it cost a bit more but we'd been through 3 of them before and this one is 2 years old and still perfect 01950422205
  6. Good for you wanting to make such a big move!! My only suggestion would be to keep in mind how expensive it can be to live on one of the smaller islands, eg. A ferry trip with car and 2 passengers is more than £10 to Whalsay. This can put a lot of strain on your kids if they will be commuting to work, which they almost certainly will be if they keep in their trades. I don't think a plumber would have any trouble at all finding a job at the moment although the others might have more problems. The job market up here is a little tricky at the moment, a lot of people are "jumping ship" from
  7. Anyone know if there is still an auction in Shetland, I used to go to Harry Hay's sometimes but haven't seen an advert in the paper in a while now. Need a few bits and pieces and would like to know when the next one is on if there is one. Thanks
  8. Just wondering if anyone has had an allergy test in Shetland? Either with NHS or without. In the last few years I seem to have started developing small allergies into much more severe ones and I was in hospital this morning because of one. Would like to know if you can get tests done and what peoples experiences have been like!
  9. What about one of the country halls? I've no idea how much they are to rent but atleast they all have toilets, electricity, seats and even better...heating! North Roe hall was £5 to rent for an hour, but then that was probably close to 20 years ago now
  10. Mid Brae Inn is amazing. They have a really big kids menu and they would still make you anything else you could think of if you just asked. They are so friendly and have plenty high chairs and dont mind if you let them out for a little play.
  11. Just went and bought a ticket for this and was shocked at how many there are left. Does everyone know that it is now in lerwick not aith? It's at the norscot angling club on saturday night and it's now only open to over 18's which personally i think is a lot better. Everyone get to high level and buy your tickets. How often do you get to go to a proper rave night in shetland?
  12. Hello, I just wanted to say that I was born in Shetland and have lived here all my life and honestly don't find it offensive in any way that you called it the "Shetlands". Just silly nit picking by people, I'm sure most people would agree with me. Who doesn't call Aberdeen the "Deen"? The Shetland Times had lots in the "to let or rent" section today, dont know if you can get a copy but it should be on their website too I think. Wishing you happy and safe travels
  13. I am what you would call a serial price checker....I love to shop around and get the best price for everything and do most of my shopping online now. However last week I was looking for a new rug for my sitting room and suprisingly found one that I liked for £55 in the Lerwick Building Centre. I'd been to both the other shops that sell rugs and LBC had the nicest and (still shocked) cheapest selection in town. I had browsed the internet for days beforehand but couldn't find one I liked that wasn't going to charge me an extra £25 for delivery. Anyone that wants to buy a rug I'd go and
  14. Hello, I would really like to spruce up my front garden which was done over with chips before we bought the house. I'd like to have a few nice wooden planters dotted about but I am hopeless at gardening, I think some flowering bushes would be lovely but what is pretty and hardy enough to stand up to the gale that can pass through my garden at any time? I'm new to this gardening thing so think gardening for dummies, latin names will confuse me! Any help would be much appreciated, names of good plants and where to get them from?
