Hi, I'm the aforementioned Pythoner. I think I've done this before although I can't find it on my computer anywhere. If you could explain your algorithm to me I'll have a think about what could have gone wrong. Have you doubled checked that you are entering the answer exactly how they want you to answer? That's tripped me up before... If you get really stuck try putting in your answer plus one and your answer minus one. It's kind of cheating but if one of them is right it can help you find where you've gone wrong.

I haven't, but I know someone who has - she used Python. I'll ask her to respond when I speak to her next.

Not necessarily. The Standards Commission may not take the complaint on. See http://www.standardscommissionscotland.org.uk/investigation_guidelines.html

New SIC weather disruption website page
jz replied to etterscab's topic in Anything & Everything Else
Hello Tom, I'd suggest including a link to Shetlink on the http://www.shetland.gov.uk/adverseweather/ page. Current conditions are often reported by Shetlinkers and can a source of reassurance or warning to anyone thinking of setting off. -
Hi Joshua - for longer term forecasts your best info is from Dave Wheeler's site http://www.northisles-weather.co.uk/ Unfortunately there is a fair chance of travel disruption between now and Christmas.

Road condition reports - Snow, Rain, Fog, etc

Just got stuck at that very spot in Levenwick!! Managed to get the car parked out of the way. Take care, everyone - the snow is blowing in. -

PB, I'm in general agreement with Earl Patrick on this. Shetlink should be a forum where people can discuss issues without revealing their identity - within the T&Cs, of course. Why not unlock the thread with the less controversial title "Alternative anonymous CE Blog discussion"?

I want to stand up for the Head of Schools*. She is in a no win situation. People moan when the schools are shut and it turns out a fine day, and moan when the schools are open and there is snow. There has been much more snow than forecast, and the road conditions were described as fine by the roads department spokesman this morning on the radio. * A "Head of Education" does not exist in the SIC.

^^ Do not confuse climate (the long term average of the atmospheric conditions) with weather. Currently the weather is very cold for Shetland in November, this does not mean that globally the climate is colder.

but when the various methods all agree, all except the met office of course. Then you have to wonder if someone is making an muckle sphincter of it or maybe even telling porkies. No (Sheepshagger? Bobdahog?). The Met Office are meticulous in their temperature data collection, using internationally standardised methods. They will be doing it properly and they are not lying. Relying on in-car temperature readouts is not reliable.
