  1. We often take our visitors to the "wild west" for half a day. Great views from top of Wormerdale and Weisdale hill. Sandness Spinning Mill. Really interesting to see the whole process from washed fleece to finished jumper. They also have a good selection of bargain knitwear. Then to Dale of Waas with the best views of Foula. Then to Lea Gardens, amazing collection of plants, sheltered and always warmer than the rest of Shetland. We usually finish at the Bonhoga Gallery for lunch or afternoon tea (they're closed Mondays) There's also a cafe in Walls, or used to be.
  2. Turtle Kebab is absolutely right. Shetland "Bruck and Muck Squad" wouldn’t stand a chance in the ‘free market’, nor would Shetland Archives, Shetland Museum, DaVoar Redd Up, the ranger service, the archaeology, geology, historical buildings ( stone masons?), place name and woodland departments, not to mention most of Shetland’s voluntary sector. Let’s float them all on the ‘free market’ and watch them go bankrupt to confirm Turtle Kebab’s faith in the ‘free market’.
  3. I was married before I became a practising homosexual. The increasing tolerance of homosexuality in our society has enabled me to find true love, happiness and fulfilment in my life after many decades of depression, self-loathing and alcohol abuse. Papa Stour is wrong when he* says a tolerant society produces homosexuality. I was aware of my sexual orientation as a boy before homosexuality was de-criminalised in this country and too frightened to admit my sexual orientation. Only the very brave come out in a society where they face punishment for something that is part of their nature, hence the “low†figures for homosexuality in countries where homosexuality is a taboo or a criminal offence. There is something that puzzles me about Christians like Papa Stour and I wonder if he* could give me answers to some questions. The bible says “though shalt not killâ€. Why then aren’t all Christians pacifists and conscientious objectors? War is an indiscriminate killer, it kills men and women. It also kills children including unborn children. As a Christian and anti-abortionist has Papa Stour ever spoken out against war and the arms industry? If not, why not? Has he* written equally strongly worded letters to his* MP regarding votes about the UK going to war? Has he* written equally strongly worded letters regarding votes on arms spending? If not, why not? * I don’t know Papa Stour’s gender, but have a strong feeling that he isn’t a woman.
