  1. I don't see where I say we wouldn't have had them if we had never been part of the UK - my point is they would need to be provided at a cost if we were to be independent.
  2. How would you feel if after that refund you had to find all the money to support previously government funded facilities - health service, defence, all council run services - education, social services, infrastructure, finances, etc, welfare agency, emergency services, transport links, etc, etc not to mention the changes in law and governance that would be required. Oh - and that programme was embarrassing to watch (when did Tingwall move to Unst?), sure as h*ll is no-one putting a stamp on my passport unless it is a recognised govenment one!
  3. Anyone passing their test nowadays doesn't get the towing a trailer bit of the licence without another test. I would imagine most of the instructors would give lessons.
  4. Going to switch off your lights for an hour? http://www.earthhour.org/news/default:en/article?id=eh4528206043261648226
  5. LOL! Great piece of journalistic research there!
  6. Khit and Holden put in a brief appearance at the craft group tonight - and took some cake home for later! He is gorgeous (of course) and has fine dark hair. Record attendance at the group tonight too!
  7. Welcome Holden! I hope to meet you soon, but maybe not tonight! Congratulations to mum, dad and the family.
  8. Went out for a blink here in Voe too.
  9. When I was overdue I wore a badge that said 'NO, I haven't had it yet!'
  10. Just tell the bump that it is Show and Tell next week at the craft group (mind you that might make Junior decide to stay put!) lol! Going over dates is the worst bit because any moment now ... My sympathies are with you.
  11. Well she did say she would bring it to the next craft group meeting! Wishing her all the best.
  12. Taken on my way home 13-2-09 Mangaster Voe http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/jaydee67/DSCF5396.jpg Frozen loch: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/jaydee67/DSCF5392.jpg The island of Foula in disguise as an iceberg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/jaydee67/DSCF5397.jpg
  13. Being lazy, if you want any of these you can copy them from here, not got any new snow ones on my site but these were taken around Voe today. (Dog one in for fun!) 14. I liked biology and English - doing my second ou course now, exploring science.
  15. I fed all three of mine - some years ago I must admit. I found it far less time consuming that the bottle hassle that came behind it for number one at 5 months when he thought I made a good teething ring! If I can be any help give me a shout.
  16. .. and the answer? No thanks, not interested. Here's the wallpaper!
  17. I enquired about basketry willow from 2 companies. One wanted more for delivery than the willow, the other emailed me back to say if I didn't mind them using Royal Mail, there would be no charge for delivery. Guess which got the order?
  18. The graph is a time line with each line representing half an hour of time, working towards midnight at the bottom. The interruptions to the straight lines are shockwaves detected by the seismograph in Lerwick.
  19. The British Geological Survey would like people to complete an online questionnaire about their experiences (or not) of the earthquake. http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/index.html
  20. At least for the country Up Helly Aa's the tickets for halls are publically available and don't rely on 'who you know'.
  21. Last week for giving your opinion, I've heard not many responses have been received so each one will count. I personally think it is a flawed consultation and have said so on my return, but if they don't get any replies who knows what may go through!
  22. This is the Blueprint page on the council's website: http://www.shetland.gov.uk/educationblueprint/default.asp , there is a link to the questionnaire there which you can complete online. Please note on the online version you can be only one of young person/ parent-carer/ staff member (presumably in a school)/ member of the public - you can't wear more than one hat! This questionnaire is ridiculous - I went to my local meeting and we asked the facilitator to write a comment on the ambiguity of the questions on the sheet. We also refused to tick the boxes as there wasn't enough information to base the decision on and this was commented on in writing too. The bias of the questions shows a hidden agenda as far as I can see. The time frame for compiling a report is very short and although I've heard that they want the recommendations to be in place by the end of the school year, one of our councillors squirmed mightily when asked when the changes would take place at the meeting and none of the senior management team seemed keen to answer either. I would say they're in a hurry to save money and playing lip service at consultation by sending this skewed document out widely.
