  1. Had to smeeg a bit when he mentioned aboot shalders preferrin' somewhaur quiet fir nestin' when I tocht o' yun specimen aside da main rod in Quarff.
  2. Does the Shetland FA not have any kind of Press Secretary? I'm astounded (and a bit peeved) when listening to SIBC in the morning and the 'local' sports news comes on with nary a mention of the previous night's Men's football results. At least the ladies have theirs up to speed.
  3. Beards are fine (on other people) but I'm not keen on them on myself. However there must have been scope for Ewan Balfour's Christmas-light infested one on this site... http://www.worldbeardchampionships.com/Gallery/gallery.html
  4. Brothers - Duncan and Iain Bray Dad & lad - represented Shetland on many an occasion together on the rugby field - John Roy and Matthew Nicolson
  5. Eh??? Canna mind dat wan
  6. Another father/son Bruce and Kevin Smith (Sandwick) And I'm sure da Flea has refereed Kevin on many an occasion sometimes for an entire 90 minutes
  7. I was going to start a Dads and lads thread, but you've beaten me to the punch. I know they played together and quite possibly won a Parish Cup together....a big hand for Glynn and Giles Roberts (Whitedale FC)
  8. Anyone mentioned the Clubb brothers yet?
  9. ...and I thought this was a thread about cheap Porsches.
  10. No at all about last year's result against Yell - they deserved their victory. In fact, they should really have had it sewn up in the 90 minutes. Mind you I wasn't playing However there's always this year - 27 years after my Parish Cup debut
  11. 100% genuine information now - straight from the keeper's mouth. Iain Morrison did indeed play in the 1972/73/74 junior (just enlarging it for kirsty's benefit ) intercounties keeping clean sheets in them all with scores of 0-0, 2-0 and 5-0 in Shetland, Orkney and Shetland respectively. I must confess to remembering the 72 and 74 ones. I must also confess to never having scored against Iain Morrison, but then ......... I don't think I've ever played on the same team as him
  12. The 50th anniversary book has I Barrie as first on the teamsheet for the 1972 football. Could be he played with I Morrison (who was also listed) as reserve? Bollox!!! Never bothered to count if there were more than 11 players listed, which would have given it to IM if only 11names!
  13. Check Jim Peterson's book. Terry Johnson was in goals for all three and eaven lost 7 in one off the games. You are aware that we're talking about the junior inter-county here....aren't you? I'm fairly confident dB would have known who was in goals in 1974 at least.
  14. Just seeing Clive's name there reminded me I've scored against him as well....... ....yes, whilst on the same team
  15. Not seen the draw...but is there any chance that Southend could meet Delting in the final
  16. The reason I posted it as noteworthy was because not many people get to play in THREE junior inter-counties far less keep a clean sheet in all of 'em. I'm quite sure that, had he chosen to do so, Brydon would have made a very competent senior county keeper. The only reason they might be head and shoulders above Brydon would be because he's not exactly the tallest keeper ever seen. But I'd have him (or any of the ones you've mentioned) with equal confidence.
  17. I may be wrong (it HAS happened before, believe it or not ) but I think he's the only junior inter-county keeper to have three clean sheets. No doubt someone will let us know if I'm spaekin' sharn. Such a good keeper I only managed to score against him the once. Shame I was playing on the same team at the time
  18. More than likely coincidence as the avatar rarely depicts the username - yours being a perfect example. Peeriebryan too (I hope!!) Still waiting for Sherlock Jonesy to show that he/she wasn't engaging in rectal communication - but I'll not hold my breath.
  19. Jeez - where does one start in dismantling this line of debate? The grammar? Nah, too easy and some may consider it too petty and pedantic. The facts? I'm not sure there are any...let's call them allegations. Amateur football does operate under rules and regulations and anyone involved is duty bound to abide by them if the game is to be played without acrimony, so to imply that any "contract" (presumably you mean registration form) is worthless is simply wrong. Of course any player can play for whomever he likes - as long as he abides by the rules of the association. As far as I'm aware (**Moderator edit - name removed**) married a Ness lass and chose (without pressure from anyone connected with Ness United, I'd assume) to live down there. As dB pointed out, a trip to Brae from Dalsetter for every home fixture would be a daunting prospect for anyone, not to mention expensive in the form of travel. I take it you can prove the allegation that (**Moderator edit - name removed**) signed a registration form for Ness after having already signed one for Delting as Leighton Flaws (presumably I can say the name now that the Shetland Times has put it into the public domain) is alleged to have done for Delting and Thistle? If not, then please explain how the circumstances are the same - the similarity escapes me. And if, as I contend, the circumstances ARE markedly different i.e. it was simply a case of a player moving from one team to another because it was more convenient (let's face it, this IS amateur football we're talking about here - there's surely a limit to how far club loyalty will stretch) then there would be no reason for any of the media to make a fuss about it. The fact that there are now fora to discuss such events is in one respect to be welcomed as it allows for a much greater spread of debate than before, however the downside is that morons with internet access DO have a platform to spout errant nonsense. Finally, one point I'm in partial agreement with you is that the "hack with an interest in the once mighty Lerwick Thistle" usually writes some drivel about the sporting week - where was it this week? As dB suggested make sure your brain is in gear (preferably not reverse)....if you can.
  20. I WAS expecting someone to reply with 'Yell', 'Unst' etc depending on their background
  21. Great news. Surely it's no' been lyin' in someen's gairden fur a mont, tho'? Whatever, hit's back noo so du'll be
  22. Moderators/admin would you please delete that part of "Guest"'s post which is gratuitously offensive - if I need to point it out to you then I'll not be back. No matter how many winky smilies you put in, Guest, it doesn't detract from the fact that your choice of language portrays you to be an insensitive, ill-educated individual. Whatever the rights, wrongs or opinions in this case there is no need to resort to such phraseology.
  23. You might need to be a little more proactive and actually ask for an appointment - that usually helps. And for the record I haven't yet met ONE dentist who didn't have my dental well-being as their first priority when I was in the chair.
