Why men should not be Agony Aunt/Uncles Dear Jim, I left home for work last week and after less than a mile my car stalled and wouldn't start. I walked back to our home and found my husband in bed with our 19 year old au pair. They announced that the affair had been going on for two years and that they were in love. Can you help me? I'm desperate! Dear Reader, The most common cause of vehicles breaking down in the first mile is dirt in the fuel lines. If this is not the case, it is usually the alternator. Hope my advice helps, Jim -

Saints preserve us if Mustaffa Donut is a bona fide representative of the MCA. Surely nobody could be that stupid? Mods - a wee IP check might prove fruitful.

Are you trying to say, in a gratuitously patronising manner, might I add, that Shetland Coastguard are somehow failing to 'perform'? Not everything can be measured in simple economic terms.

Not a line you've used that often in the past, I'd wager?

I could scarcely disagree more. Those throwing about bottles and glass are the ones primarily responsible for any damage caused. Of secondary responsibility are those who left the bottles and glass out knowing that the collection had been delayed by a week. For those who didn't see the Shetland Times or online advice, it surely isn't beyond their wit and wisdom to be aware of the non-collection of recyclable material and keep it on their own property for the following week.

I'd say you've answered your own question there, paulb.
