  1. yes they were in Fair Isle last week
  2. Brochbuilder summed your comments up pretty well and yes I read them again
  3. And will you be asking all involved to do the same or are you just proposing that a statement should come from the WS only? Cameron to issue a gagging order to all tories never to post on social media again? Corbyn to say no more free speech? Sturgeon to announce zip it? I can't even remember who the leader of the libdems is ... or all party leaders, all campaign group leaders to say "Anything you see any of our members say is not coming from us?" Where do you want the line to be drawn? Friends of the Earth saying "Don't post anything against the Japanese whaling because the Green Party will think it's come from them?" Many people are fed up of the elections already. Many people don't comment and just read. Many people have got the sense to read in-between the lines. And many people won't give a flying {'f' it was funny in Father Ted 'eck'} about what is on social media because they've already made their minds up and not only that, can see beyond the forthcoming elections, and can understand that there's more going on than the elections. yea ok I give up the two posters above are the perfect example of why you wont succeed
  4. Roachmill that was very well put. I to hate the party political system and think it just breeds central policies where the majority of the population live and rural and remote areas are left to feed of scraps. Whalsa you are always balanced here but WS are in danger of being looked at based on the comments that are being made by the usual suspects on various online sources. The ideals of WS are in theory good and anything that can improve island life has and will be considered by all apart from those arguing with WS on those previously mentioned online pages. It is about time WS came out and made a statement about this bickering before the good ideas are lost.
  5. The one thing I see as very Strange in this back Tavish statement is that he is pro europe and WS are anti Europe. confused? I am!!
  6. Maybe that was his aim all in all the whole affair and the fall out is nothing more than an embarrassment to an organisation with what I think is a good theory that needs to be debated
  7. This is all a bit of a horror story. I have been reading the letters on Shetland times and quite frankly you have to laugh. One question gets answered by another question fight breaks out toys out the pram time. Dummies getting spat out all over the place. Jeez easy lesson on how to completely ruin an entirely plausible idea self autonomy for Shetland. The only one I have heard talk any sense is Whalsa on here. If you think you are going to amass the support you need to achieve your hopes and dreams you are sadly deluded with the behaviour thats been going from both sides I might add
  8. She is on the Northboat tonight Daughter is on it and she is havin a Q&A session when cafe shuts
  9. you can carry alcohol but cannot consume it in the bar or cafe area I got searched and had a bottle of malt I had a huge fight with them and demanded to see a member of staff I was immediately allowed on the boat. The bottle was a present for someone but not the point if I want to have a tipple in my cabin thats my business
  10. If a company makes 2 million profit it only contributes 400K to the exchequer less any capital or investment retention
  11. I have heard this 72 million figure before but what is ? is it revenue or value of product? If a salmon costs $30 how much is that in revenue to a government? Its one thing saying Shetland created 72 million in 2010 but what exactly is that taxation GDP what
  12. I sort of Agree with you Ghostie but I dont have the answer hence the reason I am in favour of autonomy for Shetland as long as a fiscal case can be made. However watching the constant rubbish wir Shetland are posting in facebook ST etc is doing nothing for the case the arguments need to be financial based there is no point spouting ancient figures and moaning because up to date figures are not available. Yes I agree Europe is doing nothing but damaging the local economy and the scare tactics now being employed by the London mob wont help the cause
  13. Im a little like Capeesh here I prefer an SNP government but as a candidate I prefer Tavish however I don't like the Liberal politics all a bit mixed up I know but I am for some form of self governance for Shetland if the Fiscal case can be made Jeez work that out it has confused me
  14. You are right Urabug however this is how communications are moving and if we don't move with them we will be left behind. Big companies very rarely now have meetings or presentations or training in person now due to high costs getting everyone to the same place. The need to see who you are talking to seems for business to be the over riding factor. I am employed by a national company and we have a group meeting once a week I take part by phone everyone else is on video I am not saying that is the best way to go but it is the way its going. Even down south now solicitor client visits in prison are done by video link, court appearances are done at procedural diets by video link. Newspapers are online the list goes on and on. The biggest thing of late is plugging yourself into a machine and connecting to a doctor when you are unwell its all a bit mad
  15. This sums it up. We dint come on here and moaned about our broadband we did something about it. Two and a half years of meeting after meeting traveling at my own expense juggling figures speaking to customers assessing need costing re costing business plans company formations and Colin for your information this was all done without receiving one penny of public funding. Even opening the bank account cost two of our residents £50 each. I have an IT background and still support old customers down south this will open up remote working to Fair Isle improving employment we have potentially attracted a family who are self supported through remote network management so life goes beyond a website and you tube when you talk of broadband speeds.
  16. well you either no or you dont we are mainly a crofting community we run our own services and most will know you cant support a family on a croft alone. Most secondary incomes now realy on some form of remote working so connections such as these are essential. Maybe Colin you think we should just abandon the Isle. This is nothing to do with forming orderly queue's for grants it is trying to get a diminishing population back on its feet. We did our homework and carried out much research and three main points were Identified. Broadband better and faster, Transport more reliable, and housing better and more widely available we have achieved the first and last with grant funding for only one. Horns shows your knowledge of how the internet serves commerce when the best you can come up with is you tube!!!
  17. Well we pay the same in Fair Isle as everyone else for the service yet receive a fraction of the speed we have chosen our scheme so it lasts with little ongoing maintenance costs yes it was expensive but those per person costs mean a lot more than broadband speed we already have a new applicant family which also helps to preserve our school nurse ferry etc etc
  18. Im not having a go Whalsa in fact my feelings are exactly the opposite I am very pro the self governance Idea but I just think everything begins with financial stability and that case must be made first. Whether Wir Shetland is a political party or not does not have any relevance it is whether the stated aims can be achieved financially.
  19. It makes no difference a Fiscal case has not been made all we have heard it surplus income levels but nothing about costs and most important no indication and what actual taxed income Shetland would have to provide the services required. transport Health Social care Police Courts Prison Roads Infrastructure to mange affairs Benefits where does the balance of payments sit positive negative and how have you arrived at these conclusions I read the wir Shetland facebook and web site stories and frankly a lot of drum banging and no facts now where have I heard that before recently Oh yes SNP and the dam referendum
  20. ah ok I have had a problem with xp and it was due to end of support and updates not applying properly
  21. Dont shoot me because I cant remember where I have seen this but there is some ancient law that provides that all houses must have a means or facility to deliver mail ie a working letter box. It doesn't have to be in the door it can be a box on the wall etc
  22. don't forget the consultation them consultants have families to feed
  23. Figures for what Brian? If you had attended our launch then you would have seen some crude figures, used to illustrate the viability of our arguments. More concrete figures will become available long before any referendum is held. its Hard to plan for these things living in Fair Isle so if you can point to some info that would be good Brian, have a look at Wir Shetland and there's also a WS Facebook page that's worth checking up on. Have a read of them and see what you think. It gives figures George but no indication of taxation revenue you see yes it is great to have control of ones destiny but hard facts are needed saying the trade balance ia X only means that some people are making a lot of money it doesnt tell people what the income will be to provide services
