  1. AFAIK Robertson & Peterson are still operating the "repair" side of things as they are still covering warranty work - they can still be reached on their original numbers. I know this as I called them last week by mistake, thinking they covered the warranty on my Zanussi appliance

  2. Bergamot (Monarda didyma) is a North American native woodland herb, a member of the Lamiaceae plant family; it bears no resemblance or similarity to that of Bergamot (Citrus bergamia),a small fruit tree, predominately found in Italy, from which Bergamot essential oil is extracted. A hardy, herbaceous perennial, Bergamot (Monarda didyma) is now a popular cultivation in many gardens.

The genus Latin name of Bergamot, Monarda, was given in honor of the botanist, Dr Nicholas Monardes, of Seville, Spain; in 1569, Dr Monardes wrote a herbal on the flowers of America and named the plant so, as the aroma was a reminder of the Italian Bergamot fruit (Citrus bergamia). Therefore, it is often recommended to use the scientific plant classification system to avoid such confusion between plants.

    Identification of the Herb Bergamot

Bergamot is also known as Bee Balm, as its flowers attract an array of bees and butterflies; however, bees can not reach the nectar unless other insects have already made holes. Bergamot now flowers in a variety of colors including white, purple, pink and scarlet; purple-blue flowers are known as Blue Stocking, pink flowers are known as Croftway Pink. Even when dried, the flowers of Bergamot retain their true color and can be used in potpourri and teas.

So you are needing Bergamot Herb (Bee Balm) not Citrus Bergamia from which they get the Bergamot essential oil.

    ebay has some seeds http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Monarda-didyma--%22Panorama-Mix%22--Bee-Balm---40%20-seeds-_W0QQitemZ150285003756QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=212829459354&rvr_id=212829459354&cguid=a709f61b1280a0e205148fd4ff600738

  3. I wanted Sky Multiroom but when I phoned Sky they wanted an extortionate amount of money for all the equipement. I ended up buying a 2nd hand Sky+ box and getting the guys at Springbank Electrical to change the LNB on my dish and run the cables to the new box. Very reasonably priced and they arrived when they said they would. Once it was all hooked up, I phoned Sky and told them all the equipment was installed and I wanted Multiroom. They sent out the extra viewing card within 4 days :D

  4. Been into town this morning and there was a car off just before Girlsta so stationary traffic whilst it was cleared - everyone appeared ok though.

It snowed in town all the time whilst I was there and coming back at 2pm, the roads were horrid all the way to Voe. Voe through to Brae wasn't too bad but the snow seemed to be heading north as Brae to North Isles was started to get bad as I came through just before 3pm.

  5. I have to agree with previous posts - if the folks who operate the ploughs and gritters were not out doing their job then me trying to deliver the post would not happen. Even with the worst snow yesterday, I was still able to drive out to places like Nibbon/Gunnister and Ennisfirth (albeit with alot of caution).

So a massive thankyou to everyone involved who go out in this weather to enable others to go about their normal, daily business.

  6. How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb?

  7. Sorry of this is slightly off topic but with all the talk of "folk should keep the money in Shetland and not spend it south", here is my two-penneth worth.

I am looking for a minibus to transport my kids about. I found one in Shetland but it required quite a bit of welding for it to pass the MoT. I spoke to several people about getting the work done and not one of them wanted to do it. I know the bill would come to about £700 ish and I was quite prepared for that but nobody wants to do the work. So you try and keep the money in Shetland and that is the response you get. Result - I am buying from South, end of !

    Rant over

  8. I passed my car test 1st time, 3 months after my 17th after 8 lessons back when there was no theory test. I'd been driving (on private land) since I was 14 and I was so eager to get my licence and my own car. I took my PCV test 6 years ago and had to sit the theory, I passed them both 1st time. Taking your test in a double decker bus through central London is lots of fun

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine :)

  9. Sounds like the ownership of the islands is up for sale. Most of the land is subject to croft tenancies and are OWNED by a landlord who collects annual croft rents from each tenant. These are secure tenancies, so someone buying the island would have these tenants passed to him by the existing landlord.

  10. i'd also avoid green/red/yellow peppers, set off heartburn and trigger IBS for me. Coffee a bad one for me as well as alcohol. Everyone is different though, most main ones are common to most people, some are specific to you. A food diary is useful as it helps identify patterns and stops you removing too much from your diet if used properly.

  11. I know a few men and women up here who are Gay/Bi and 'out' for want of a better way of putting it. Although I am sure the occasional incidents of homophobia take place -I'd be naive if I didn't - I have never personally witnessed such an incident.

When someone moves up here, it is far more their willingness to be part of a wider community that confers acceptance on an individual than anything else.

24/7 abuse is not something I could imagine happening up here in a million years.

Shetland appears to accept sexual /religious/racial differences without the PC need to over compensate.
