I have Adblock Plus too, as an add-on for firefox. There was a topic a good while back about the ads... before that I didn't know there were any. It's all revenue for Shetlink I guess, the dosh has to come from somewhere. If it's click through, I bet subway doesn't get many?

I have an 80Gb allowance and I'm not even using half of it, and BT faults permitting, a stable 5-6Mb connection. I'd like to see the data I have sent them two questions. Firstly, it doesn't run any tests when the download capacity is reached. When gaming less bandwidth is used - if it runs test then will it affect my ping? Secondly, it wants major ISPs, Plusnet isn't listed but it IS owned by BT now, so I asked if that was acceptable. Fingers crossed! ---------- A reply already! Thanks for your email and questions. We have tested the devices extensively on lines in the UK and USA, and we do not run tests when gaming. I'm a gamer myself, and the SamKnows Whitebox has not caused any issues. With regards to ISP, please select Other, and proceed from there. Many thanks, Neil ------- I'm signing up!

Probably part of the Envisat satellite which was supposed to re-enter the atmosphere last weekend? Which is weird, hmmmmm. Some scottish newspapers (here & here) detail it returning, but wikipedia and the ESA website don't say anything about it.

Even more confused now! The dates finally given were for 16-18th of September. Now there is someone doing a concert (Simon Thacker's Svara-Kanti), on two dates in October/November. Seems this is Asian influenced music, not what my friend was expecting. Please can anyone clear up what is going please? I thought the guitar festival was a group of events over a weekend or two, with different artists in different locations around the islands... I don't know if this year is representative, but it seems a mess! No proper information about who was playing where and when, even from the official organisers.

My friend says he can't find any info about the guitar festival, so I did a bit of searching. Shetland music website has no dates Shetland Arts has " Details on this year’s programme coming soon!" (no dates) and directs to Shetland music site above. Visit Shetland website says "dates are yet to be confirmed" and also points to Shetland music website. Then... A Scottish Islands web site has provisional dates, with links to... Shetland Arts website, above; and finally Shetland Box Office which gives a date!! Unfortunately when you try and book tickets online, you can't select it. I thought there might be details of who is playing too? I think one week's notice is to short for him to get here now, unfortunately. Shame

Usually I follow the weather via the met office website, since all the data comes from them anyway. I generally look at THIS (scroll down), as the table has all the info for the next 5 days including gust speed. It's also updated very frequently. [i don't live in Lerwick but it's enough. If I want more specific I can use the main met office map and zoom in.] It's strange that the weather warning has been removed from us, and the gust speed is predicted only in the 30s, like today. If you look at the isobars HERE (select pressure), they are much closer together on Monday and Tuesday than today (gusting 30s atm), so it would follow it should be windier on Monday and Tuesday. Maybe not the 59mph gusts is said last night but still more than 30s :S -

It isn't on my property, it's close to the road around a derelict shell of a house. I have no idea who owns the land. -

Mentioned it on another post somewhere I think... The surveyor guy said that if there was a problem and one of the guys was ill they wouldn't be able to get him out. You have to stoop but it's not that bad! We can't have cavity wall insulation as it's a wood frame house and the air gap is required. What I *would* like is the walls of the loft rooms to be done... otherwise those rooms lose heat sideways into the loft that surrounds them. Can they do that too do you know?

Does anyone know if SIC has a eradication policy for invasive species? There is japanese knotweed, it's struggling but still spreading.

Have you seen it? Only brought to my attention this morning... Media report Tips on seeing it (needs telescope or binoculars) -
Aha we might do that then, RDI wouldn't do our loft as he couldn't stand up in it (healthy and safety issue?). Maybe Shetland Heatwise would be more obliging. We have no thermostat and a Rayburn used in in autumn/winter which costs a small fortune in oil, but we are loathe to give it up for a boiler!
