I will refer you back to my post made at 7:47am on the 16th april peat
try reading with an adult present and get them to explain it to you.
Then off to bed like a good little boy you have to go play in the traffic in the morning

Never for one minute did I claim the statement as my own peat, as it makes no difference who said it if it's the truth.
As for your link there is something dodgy about the site as it wont open on this or any other computer out here

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Socialist's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

No peat the question has been answered you just choose to waffle more BS.
you quoted landing figures earlier so have a look at de bit of paper and see how much of that fish landed goes straight on a truck and is shipped south for processing, providing no economic benefit to Shetland whatsoever.
Crofter I agree that the dumping of fish is a problem but the sheer quantity of undersized fish compared to larger "legal sized" fish on the market in the whole of mainland Europe would tend to indicate that they are deliberately targeting the smaller fish.
I even remember one Spanish boat being caught with over a tonne of undersized monks on board and the Sheriff fined him 8 grand. what the fisheries officer failed to mention in court was that the monks had been tailed so the vast bulk of the weight had already been dumped.
But lets get back to the windmills we could have another thread to discus the criminal treatment of our fishermen by the Scoty, UK, EU govs
-
limited liability for tax reasons my ass it is to protect the directors financially from legal action
-
For all lennons guff about how he is going to win the champions league with celtic then we have this.
he still can't keep his big gob shut and has to stomp on to the pitch in his typical aggressive manner

Instead, divert the attention away from the subject and talk about a subject totally unrelated and untenable.
It was you that changed the subject peat now you moan that the subject has been changed.
But here go's again
With control over our own waters we would be able to do deals with other nations like Norway Faroe Iceland to fish in their waters and for them to fish here of course we would all have to stick to the same rules ie land all you catch, no trawling within 12nm of land.
But to be quite honest with control over our own waters we would have a large enough renewable resource to keep every man and woman in Shetland working and well paid.
With control over the sea bed we would have riches beyond the dreams of avarice we could reduce the tax on the oil companies making it more attractive for them to develop even the smallest of wells which would extend the life of the east Shetland basin by 20-30 years before we even start out west.
With control over our own destiny we could insist the oil companies build a gas fired power station at Sullom Voe to supply our electricity needs for the next hundred+ years, giving us time to investigate alternative energy sources that are not so destructive to our landscape as the wind farm will surely be.
With a reduced tax rate we could encourage companies to set up here and provide jobs for our now steadily growing population.
With control over our destiny we could deport rapists, thieves and other scumbags that move here while having the money to rehabilitate or lock away for good those that are born and bred here. (I would even insist that you were to work with them while in prison).
If we must spend our money it would be far better spent getting us clear of the EU and the UK not on despoiling our land for the greed of the few.
And so to your last comment yes there are many others in the same club but my point which went completely over your head as usual was that Ireland also caught their boats landing black but damn all was done about it.
But since you mentioned those other countries here we go I will state here and now without reservation that each and every one of those countries has a problem with illegal landings, they just choose to do nothing about it. Just take a trip to their fish markets and it will laid out before you and their fisheries officers for all to see.
I have done this, it one of the things I do when I am travelling all over the place and I have yet to visit a fish market in Europe where there wasn't illegal fish for sale in open view.
Not something they like to put in their official stats on google
-
GWPF, that's Nigel Lawsons Climate change denier organisation, they're lying to you, that's what the oil industry pays them to do. Ignore it.
and the links you supply are from totally neutral non biased websites I suppose
-
At least it has moved on since the days when as certain cleaner used to take a peak at folks medical notes then go home and discuss them with all and sundry, or at least I hope it has
-
There are other factors as well that distort the figures as well. Black fish landings, that did nothing but line the pockets of individuals. Not really good for the community
Yet again your ignorance needs educating.
The black fish landing prevented good quality fish being dumped and were only illegal because of a daft EU rule.
The fish were landed at Shetland catch and other processors in Scotland and Ireland providing well paid jobs for a good sized portion of the population up here.
That black or illegal if you like fish then went for export mainly to Africa providing folks there with much needed protein in their diet.
The black fish landings also kept the cost of mackerel at a realistic level allowing folk everywhere to be better able to afford it.
And you said it only lined the pockets of a few individuals
I highlighted Ireland for the reason that even though we are supposed to be in the same club following the same set of rules and the Irish were the first to be caught, there have been no prosecutions in Ireland and no payback of quota by Irish boats, so one size does not fit all when it comes to implementing those rules.
And now we are back to the dumping of good fish over the side.
I am not really caring about who is on each boat, a Norwegian boat with a part Shetland crew or notstick to talking about traffic cones peat it is a subject you may actually have some knowledge of

Shale gas peat, shale gas as it becomes available prices will drop and drop dramatically. As for oil getting harder to reach well technology is making it easier all the time.
But of course I should take lessons on the oil industry from you because you googled it.
speaking of google look at google hong kong if you want an example of what you call racism but me and every chinese person I've met out here thinks is rather amusing.
-
jesus mare waffle I did not say we should kill off the old folks I made a joke about harald shipman there is a difference.
with independence we could reduce tax there for attracting business and folk here and boosting our ecomomy.
If loads of folk leave then so will tesco boosting small businesses
yeah right money from the EU at the moment they have made a fund of £1.5 million to compensate for the loss of fishing boats for the whole highlands and islands about the same as one small white fish boat grosses in a year so not much compensation really considering how many boats we have lost due to EU rules.
Yet again peat you want subsidy and I want industry you want hand outs I want people to work and take pride in their community and that won't be achieved the way you envisage things.
The cuts we are facing just now are quite possibly unnecessary It may be the councils way of getting folks to accept the windfarm.
A few less highly paid officials got rid by pointing out their failures and sacking instead of the usual golden handshake.
A lot less consultants, if we need them then why employ the managers we have in place. And this coming from a consultant too.

As ever peat when the discusion goes beyond you change it to something irrelevent

The welfare state was meant to help folks down on their luck back onto their feet or to help those that could not help themselves but it has morphed into a monster with the help of bleeding hearts to be a scroungers paradise.
-
But then I understand the OP's point of view, I couldn't believe some of the folk I met south, folk who've always had handouts from the state, charities, etc. Have the fully furnished, nicely decorated council house, the car, the full sky package, the latest games consules, laptops, phones & gadgets. And they still complain, expect stuff for free, but never seem to help out those really in need.
Theres plenty of them up here too MJ homegrown and incomers and getting more abundant daily
-
a mere statement of fact peat not an insult
-
bollox peat pure bolloxI knew that, I was leading. And no answer because as yet no one knows just how much gas is out west conservative estimates put it at a turd load and considering the test results so far it will be bigger than the east Shetland basin in time
-
businesses are installing them because there is an unsustainable subsidy being paid out at the moment that may soon end.
And I would love to see you try to train a monkey to grow salad
-
PIPELINE peat there is a bloody great pipeline to take the gas out into the north sea then on to St Fergus NO TANKERS.
It has been well publicised and talked about on here for months if not years so I guess this is a case where education and information has been wasted on you yet again.
-
Stupid is stupid and can't be cured
Ignorance is different, that is a lack of education, and is something that can be worked on.
-
I said
probably but not exclusively brought about by the consumption of more dope than their minds can cope with.you read
So, then, all hippies are overdosing on dope?see what I mean
-
Then there is some folks that no amount of education is ever going to switch on that light bulb and for you sorry peat I mean them why bother it is a waste of resources and as we all know that's just not green.
-
Folk who do not agree with you are "stuped"?
what need I say

yet again peat monkeys and rocket science

I see the Shetland amenity trust along with various other funding agencies are giving the lighthouse a £5.4 million refurb then they intend to rent out the accommodation for £450/week high season did anybody even do the simplest of sums for this project it will take 12000 weeks of high season rental to recoup the initial investment. thats 750 years. even if it is rented out every week of the year it will take about 350 years to recoup the initial investment.
just what the heck are these folk thinking?
While I have no objection to the principle I do wonder why the cost of £5.4 million is so high, could it be that those involved are spending others folks money and there for don't care about the economics of the situation.
They are also undercutting private business renting out similar sized accommodation in Shetland.
